Today at work I found we had a eprom programmer called Sunshine HEP-808,
it's an 8 socket + 1 master socket programmer, I got the software for it
and
took it home. I couldn't get it to work, but since found out that this
programmer might need a special card to work, it has a 25pin connector
that
fit into my printer port, but now it seems that it need a card in the
computer to work.

Does anyone here have one of these programmers that can tell me how to
correctly connect it to the computer.
You got it right, these programmers need a special card. The programmer
looks like it connects to a standard parallel port, but alas they dont. I
got a card here that connects to a shunshine programmer, but its an expro80
or something like that, not sure if they are the same.

File a Freedom of Information request with the Government Agency
that overseas Energex (or is it a Government agency?) . I
certain your need to know would past the public interest test
(especially if there is a group of you with damage wanting this
same information).

You have not yet even asked Energex to compensate you ???

Do that and if they do not come to the party contact these folk.

Two things that i reccomend to all people, get insurance and find a good
solicitor!! If you dont have the insurance, the solicitor may sort out the
problems that are not your fault, however it may take longer.
And will likely cost more than the value of the goods damaged.

It makes a hell of a lot more sense to use the
small claims system if the ECPO wont help.

They should be able to do over Energex to provide the details
of who caused the accident/damage and then do over them.

You wasted everyone's time here for an old tape answering machine that most
likely has already reached it's maximum bid already of $1?

Your programmer requires the same ISA card as my Sunshine Expro-60.
See http://www.danbbs.dk/~rmadrm/p_id.htm. According to this page, "if
the ISA card is a HALF/ 1/4 length card WITHOUT many components but

Trust Energex to weasle their way out of it. I'll bet they didn't have
any trouble getting the driver's details from the police even though
they were not actually involved in the accident itself. True, their
system was affected by it but that is a slightly different matter and in
essence the privacy rules invoked by the police should also apply in
their case. I will also bet Energex will be suing the driver's insurance
company for compensation to their system. If you can definitely match
the time of your appliances being damaged with the time the accident
occurred then you also become an affected person as a result of the
accident, and therefore you should be entitled to the same information
about the driver as Energex is.

Of course, you are right Phil. I was trying to say that the OP should
also be entitled to the information about the driver and that the police
should provide it to him, even though he was the 4th party. We know he
is not likely to get it from them.

** No way. The police SAW the damage done to the power pole - no
doubt about the interested parties there.

Then some *nobody* rings the station saying his VCR is kaput and wants
driver details of the accident ????

It would be totally improper for the police to give them out.

Further to the issue, the OP might check his home insurance policy to
see what it says about vehicle impact.

** He already said he was NOT insured.

According to RAC Insurance in WA
they say they will cover damage to electrical appliances caused by
vehicle impact to a power pole and they don't usually try to recover
costs from the driver's insurance company. He might like to have a chat
with his home insurer about the situation. I was also told that
insurance company's can obtain driver details from police in such
incidents for a fee.

** Was that a "fee" or a "bribe" ?? ....... ;-)

Hi,

I just received the latest Farnell , oops Farnell in One, flyer with
all the specials in it titled "Price Breakers".

The listing on the third page is interesting - the one will all the
capacitors titled "Clearance Sale". There is a big problem with the
order
code numbers. They have created new ones for the sale that do not appear
in
the catalogue so there is no easy way for you to figure out which caps are
actually being offered.

The "supplier numbers" do not lead you anywhere in most cases
either.

I did track down a couple of the more expensive ones ( i.e. 2700
F,
2.3 volt for $780 each ) and found the prices shown are not reduced
compared
to the catalogue.

Why bother ?

I found out that they have made another error apart from the spelling
mistakes and the prices on the cap sale were also misprinted. If any are
interesting then ring and they can tell you the correct price and its proper
order code. I was told they have a list available of the real sale prices.

There is NO point in knowing the normal order code - every item in
the flyer has a special code so Farnell know YOU are ordering from the
latest flyer.

The problem is having NO fucking idea WHICH cap is being offered.

Hi guys,

I was wondring where I could get a crimper for insulated terminal . I
want to crimp 8 and 4 awg cables using ring terminals.

I know jaycar sells the terminals but I cannot find a crimper for
4awg cables.

The crimpers I have will do up to 6mm which is the best i could find.
I don't want to spend too much..
maybe around 50 bucks..

thanks
Hello "saz",

Firstly I would try contacting your local auto electrical distributor
to see what they have available. Tools for this size cable can be
expensive (eg. RS part #445-611 @ $243.00 plust GST) - Their pricing
on this tool is actually quite reasonable (for a change :) ). The
other options are the tools that either you hit with a big hammer or
squeeze up in a vice. These type of tools should be available through
the auto electrical distributors as they are used for crimping battery
cables and most will crimp up to 4/0 AWG.

If you really get stuck try contacting Colourview Electronics in
Brisbane (Ph 07 3275 3188). They are distributors for the SMH range of
connectors and tooling and the SMH catalogue lists both the hammer
and vice-squeeze type of crimpers. I dont have any pricing on these
items but due to their simplicity I would assume they may be a cheaper
alternative.

Cheers,

Andy

Why should you have to go to all that trouble - and especially for
loads of different part nos ? Farnell is supposed to be an
organisation catering to the professional market - not a discount
store with a "bargain bin of caps out the front that you are supposed
to take "pot luck with"

I would imagine that most of its potential buyers would want to see
reasonable info on these parts before buying and not have to stuff
round trying to get it.

Professional people and business people also do not have the time to
waste on the phone like this - regardless of if its a 13xxx number or
not. Time is $$$.
could it be an attitude???

Yep. Sounds like attitude of the tech advice guy here was definitely
a problem.

IE: Someone on a help desk being "more than slightly hostile" to a
customer is a NO NO".

Piss of the wrong customer/buyer like this and you could lose millions
in sales.

In article <3efee40c$0$5973$afc38c87@news.optusnet.com.au>,
barrymain@yahoo.com says...
hi

anyone know how to use a CRO to view spark in a car, i think u can use foil
around the leads as pickups but would like any info if anyone knows

barrymain@yahoo.com

Foil around the leads only gives you a voltage pickup, this will result
in great sensitivity to dV/dt.
I am assuming the OP wants a way of measuring the HT side of the
ignition. If this is the case then VOLTAGE is what needs to be
measured!

A better way is a current transformer.

Crap!! - Current transformer my arse. Ok for viewing primary waveform
but not on secondary patterns. I have been servicing / repairing
automotive diagnostic euipment for the best part of 20 years (Bosch,
Sun/SnapOn, Bear, OTC/SPX, Fluke, Repco/Allen etc.) and have not yet
seen any serious manufacturer use a current pickup for secondary
waveforms. Inductive is ok for triggering a timing light (~ 100mA) but
not for 'scope patterns.
You
need to surround the lead with a ferrite core such as a small C-core. The
lead passes once thru the core. Wind a few turns of wire around the other
leg and connect a resistor across the ends of this coil and close to the
core to reduce dV/dt pickup. Connect the CRO across the resistor. The
resistor value should be in the order of a few hundred ohms. Just
experiment a bit. I have done this before and have managed to diagnose
crook plug leads. Even better is to put the current transformer around
the coil lead/s. This lets you compare the spark going to each plug.
Triggering can be tricky, try using the holdoff, too. On a proper
ignition analyser, consecutive spark pulses have increasing DC offsets on
the CRO screen for easy vertical comparison. Would not be too hard to
design one.
The "alfoil" method, while crude, still works on capacitive coupling
which is the industry standard for viewing secondary patterns. I have
also seen copper braid (from RG8 coax) used successfully. Only thing
to be careful of is if the HT arcs over to your "probe" - some sort of
protection (spark gap) is necessary here otherwise bye-bye scope front
end!!.
Remember the basic rule - KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). The current
transformer method will work but is not as simple to apply as
capacitive pickup.
BTW "Testing", do you or have you ever worker for Lucas/CAV?. They
have produced the most over-engineered and unreliable crap that I
have ever seen - get out of "Uni mode" and into "real world mode" -
the benefits are enormous!!

Apologies for my ranting,

Andy
