The UK press is now uniformly ghastly and the US press is provincial to an
extent that is positively unsettling to a European.

What takes you there btw ? I was there about 6 -7 times for technical
liaison

I'm now retired from full time work now, and the wife is originally from
Bombay and owns a house there. It's cheaper and much warmer than a winter
in the UK and what we save in fuel bills pays for one of the tickets.

So if anyone's looking for a sound man there, or even wants someone to have
a look at something (I have full residence papers and am allowed to work
and stuff without any problems) I'm available in the winter for a reasonable
fee.

I do have to add that sound systems in Bombay range from the very nice very
modern, which are unusual, to the 'We're all going to die, and it sounds
crap as well' variety which seem to be available to rent on every street
corner.

They're all loud, and most Indian electrical supply systems tend to be
'will not kill you, perhaps, this week' rather than safe.

The son of a friend of ours did an 'event management' degree at some college
there, but it was all about how to design tickets and do the books, and I
don't think anyone at any level had ever been involved professionally in
organising a large event...

I don't agree outlawing guns is a good idea. Enforcing the laws we already
have would be a good start.

Much of the gun trafficking here is illegal already. Making it doubly
illegal won't help a damn thing.

Raise penalties. People sell illegal guns and get a couple years. Make it
life without parole.

A 16 year old ghetto dweller can shoot someone and be back on the street
before he's 18. All that happened is he got a couple years with seasoned
criminals learning ways not to get caught next time. Some rehabilitation.

dealers would just sell pot. Make selling guns economically not feasible in
terms of years lost. Till then, no matter how many laws, there will be
illegal guns.

I own guns, and have done so since I was 18 years of age.

If you're reasonably respectable you can get a UK firearms license fairly
easily, as long as you have a legitimate use for it.

'Legitimate use' includes something silly like a letter from a local farmer
saying you can shoot rabbits on his land or dressing up at weekends to play
'Roundheads and Cavaliers' (or even 'Blues and Greys', they do that here as
well).

gun ownership. It's quite different here. Besides, here it's specifically

registered pistol instructor.

It's still possible to shoot handguns in the UK. Black powder pistols are
available and there are certain cases where you can shoot pistols using
'bulleted ammunition' here.

Let's say I let a 'few' people in the ISP concerned (board level people,
senior tech management and their publicity company) know about this
after a reasonable period of reconciliation that failed.

I got the reply within 12 hours .... "this account has been
terminated". That was it, period.

I truly am an EXPERT in these matters. I even phone the techs at the
ISPs concerned to get their view. That is often VERY interesting, not
least because they realise they are dealing with an expert abuse
tracker. With modern telecoms that's no more than the cost of a local
call too.

And don't think an anonymiser will help either. Been there, done that
too. They don't want to attract FBI etc attention.

I don't have any problem acqiring that normally but your offer is kindly
acccepted. Trust me, abuse reports go way beyond headers in extreme cases.

It's possible I could get Allison banned from even dial-up. It's up to him
