I had a 1976 Mini at one time.

The problem I had with the brakes was they always needed mending. I must
have changed all 6 slave cylinders at least once in the time I had it :(

Why 6 with 4 wheels?

But braking while reversing was never an issue. After all I reverse at
maybe a tenth of my max forward speed. (which is about 60MPH in a Mini!)

My VW Golf 1.9 TDI Auto would go 40mph in reverse. Made J turns fucking fun.

Having every single one one way round seems insane, so you can hardly stop in reverse? How did that pass the safety requirements?

You have a manual transmssion with a very high ratio, slowing down is easy.
the brakes are only needed so stop from slow,

When reversing I disengage the clutch when slowing down, or it would be very jerky.

I got a lift from a lorry driver once. He told me his apprentice managed to roll a lorry going round a roundabout because she \"didn\'t realise it was fully loaded\". I told him I could tell his was fully loaded even as a passenger, you can just feel it pulling.

Peugeot made bicycles long before they made cars. I think Grimaldi in
Sweden has the brand now.

They also made motorcycles and scooters but a German holding company has
the scooters now.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peugeot_Metropolis_400

Depending on when you bought the bike it may have been made by Peugeot.
Who actually had the brand gets shaky in the \'90s.

Peugeots are sold in Mexico but you\'d have a better chance of sneaking a
kilo of fentanyl into the US than a Peugeot.

Why do the Americans not let you bring a Peugeot in?

I had a 405 once which was converted to diesel. 0-60mph in 21 seconds. Not much fun.

Peugeot looked at the upcoming EPA and NHTSA regulations and decided the
market wasn\'t worth it. There was talk a year or two ago but they again
decided it wasn\'t worth it.

There is a loophole for cars less than 25 years old called \'Show and
Display\' but a run-of-the-mill Peugeot wouldn\'t be eligible.

It might be possible for a private citizen to bring a model up to the
standards and jump through all the hoops but it would be expensive and
painful.

It wasn\'t an effort to specifically keep French cars out but the sales in
the US were so dismal Peugeot, Renault, and Citroen didn\'t bother. Yugo
dropped out in \'92 even before Clinton bombed their plant. There are no
Dacias, but that is sort of a Renault. Some movie I watched recently,
maybe Midsomer Murders, had a Dacia.

Fiat came back with the 500 about 10 years ago. They\'re supposedly are
doing a EV 500. Personally, I briefly had a Spider back in the day. Never
again.

I had an old Peugeot 203 when I was a graduate student. Great value for money.

I had a equally old 404 when I was first in the UK, which was both fast and cheap to insure. The 304 that followed it was fine, but the quickest route to replacing the fan belt included taking out the radiator, which wasn\'t. My wife liked Nissans so we went over to them.
