They get their cut, eventually!

You could be right. If the corp pays little tax but high dividends, then
indeed there is a compensation effect. It's up to the government then to
set the corporation and personal tax rates to achieve a suitable
balance. There could even be an argument for abolishing corporation tax
and make it all personal. But then there are arguments against any
income tax at all ......
The primary one being, taxation is theft. The highwayman robs you once,
and goes away. The tax collector robs you repeatedly, year after year.

What gives any person the right to benefit from the fruits of another's
labor? Or Labour, for the Brits amongst us. ;-)

It is really quite simple: If I pay more taxes, so you can pay less,
I am paying your way, and you are on welfare.

Yup. Just what I said. I'd just like to pay LESS of your way.

The only rational taxation is a universal sales tax, with exemptions
for basics.

Screw the exemptions for "basics" (that's the politically easier
route, however). Give people money if they need it. The exemptions
cause a LOT of complexity with a reasonable VAT/GST type system
because of the way input tax credits have to be handled. AFAIK no
country has been able to do that (politically) at a useful tax rate.

That would reduce the huge disadvantage that domestic
manufacturers/employers face.

Income tax is a job-destroying machine.
John

*Replacing* IT with a GST/VAT at a reasonable rate would be nothing
short of revolutionary. Estate taxes should probably be jacked up
(make it easier to make money in this generation rather than
accumulate it over many), but that's another story.
What really needs to be repaired is the mindset that there's any
justification whatsoever for institutionalized theft.

Rich

Perhaps I confused you by snipping too much of the attributions, but I did
not say he was a liar (although I personally believe he is). What I said
here, as you quoted me, is that he said things that were not true. Forget
your attempts at passing the buck to previous administrations for a
minute, and answer me this: was Bush telling the factual truth when he
said that Iraq had large quantities of WMD?

Given that there is exactly zero evidence of such weapons now or when the
claim was made, the obvious answer is no, it was not the truth. As you
say, this does not make it a lie - it is only a lie if Bush knew it was
not the truth. So tell me, why do you think Bush said it, and then based
a war on this claim? Do you think he knew? Do you think his advisors
knew and lied to him? Or do you think this is all a conspiracy by
previous democrate administrations to build a web of false information to
embarass future republicans?

Libertarianism is, after all, a hobby of the lucky and the wealthy.

The Est movement was the essence of libertarianism. It said,
essentially, "sure, for a tiny bit of consideration on my part, I
could greatly reduce your unhappiness. But screw you, it's your
problem."

Being a libertarian is a subscribing to a certain political philosophy.

Being charitable is caring for the well being others. They are
not mutually exclusive of each other.

The AWWA rents our campus every year and holds a 1 day affair that shows
off the latest technology and instruments that they are marketing to the
industry. It's really interesting to walk thru the booths they set up
on the mall with all the high tech instruments that are now available.
I think one of the devices is a flowmeter that doesn't use a propeller
and/or venturi like the old ones used. I forget if it uses ultrasonics
or the diff between two thermal sensors, sort of like an anemometer.

They have alot of the remote instrumentation stuff, on VHF or UHF freqs.
Like those small cabinets with the DIN thingys that allow you to snap in
modules for sensing pressure or level, etc. The master then polls these
remotes over the radio channel. Lotsa neat, cool stuff.

Also they show off these remote cameras that they put down the pipes to
inspect them. Sort of like that scope the doc uses on your anal cavity,
but a lot longer. :)
