I would think it depends on the circuit whether a bipolar would work.
OPA4134
is a good bifet,
but you just can't expect it to work if you don't know the circuit.
Power

are essential. Then there's the LME49740.

I don't know why, but I was assuming audio applications. There are all

except ic1, all ops are TL074. i already replaced ic1 with an OPA 2134
(excellent result) but still have some great humming even when nothing
is connected to the input and mute is pressed. it's definitivle the
main board, not the AHA.
so i wanted to replace all those cheap noisy TL074 with the OPA 4134 -
unfortunately, the PA series (DIP14) is dead;-)

Changing op-amps won't affect humming one tiny bit. You have some other
problem. Could be all sorts
of things. Take it to a tech.

i am the tech! ;-) the humming is my 2nd problem, i first have to
solve the noise, and as the TL074 are pretty good noise generators, i
want to change them first to have a "clean hum" to start look for and
as the OPA 4134 is dead, i was looking for some other alternative.

You were given two models.

Put some sockets in there and compare.

It is unlikely you will find off-the-shelf linear PSU's rated at 3.3V.15A these
days so the best I can suggest is a medical grade switcher with around 80mV p-p
ripple, eg. VRPS-75-3.3.

That's too much ripple. No big deal to filter it out but in this setup
we've found that no matter what you do a few microamps of ripple will
find its way into the signal path.

There used to be 5V/30A supplies. I know that for a fact because I had
two until a couple years ago. But, gone ... I just didn't know that I'd
ever need something like that. They were made in California, black and
gold-brushed enclosure but can't remember the brand.

Dielectric attracts more charge onto the plates of the capacitor,
so it plays the role of an emf supply. On the other hand it is
shown in the paper that capacitance of a capacitor depends
only on the configuration of its plats not also on the existence
of any dielectric.

The correct term is "claimed" not "shown". If I say that I am typing
this while sitting on a unicorn, that is a claim, I haven't shown you
that.

You claim that a dielectric attracts more charge. This is not what it
does. It allows a larger charge to be displaced for a given voltage
between the plates. This is the very definition of it increasing the
capacitance. The dielectric is not acting on its own. It is reacting
to the applied voltage gradient and as a result is increasing the
capacitance. If it acted on its own, the motion of the dielectric
would be enough to generate a voltage on the capacitor.

So you have that 3x4 matrix (7 wires) and that decoder (12 wires + GND). A
solution for a conversion is not half as easy as it looks like, especially
when using basic building blocks like gates. Problem is the matrix keypad
which cannot be read out using combinatorial logic only. You will need some
clock and a shift register or similar to put signals on the rows (or
columns). When correctly designed, the signals on all seven lines determine
which key was pressed (if any). This code is not continuously available
however as other keys also needs to be scanned. So you will need to build in
some timing for validation of the key pressed. Another method is to stop
scanning as long as a key is presed. Conversion from the 7 bits code to the
12 bits one is straightforward using combinatorial logic, although you will
need a lot of gates.

This type of circuits has been build and I still can build them if I really
need to. Otherwise I won't. Using a simple, cheap, 28 pins micro or similar,
will be far easier and faster to design and requires much less components
and so board space.

Other: We've designed the boards per spec. Holes for the ejector 250mils
in, boards exactly Eurocard length (160mm) but the boards aren't flush
with the front rails of the VME cage. So maybe those ejectors wouldn't
work anyhow.

Are there any "pull tools" available? We used to have those for
ultrasound
machines because ejectors were rattling to much. But that was many moons
ago and I don't have the foggiest where they came from. Basically they
caught the holes and then you cantilevered the board out. Of course,
engineers didn't want to be sissies so we kept pulling by hand until
thick
callusses developed.

Wow, I remember VME... barely.

VME is doing well in the aerospace biz. Its demise has been predicted
for decades, and it continues to grow. CPCI was to be one of its many
predicted killers, based on leveraging commercial silicon, but that
silicon turned out to have half-lives measured in years or maybe
months, which isn't good for product lifetime. PCI sucks anyhow, with
its complexity and limited electrical bus length.

I partially agree on this one. Being in the Aerospace biz myself - I saw a
sudden downturn the past couple years. But there is still a lot-o-stuff out
there.

I don't agree that CPCI sucks ...at least not as far as functionallity.
But - I did get burned on controllers recently.
When I used to make VME cards - I used the PLX VME-2000 and VME-3000 chip
set. Very simple to use and they were great... in theory. But, we found
there to be far too many infant mortality deaths with the VME-3000 parts.
Because of this - we avoided PLX when designing PCI interface and went with
the AMCC Matchmaker series. These have been excellent parts for us... up
until about a week ago. AMCC announced they are giving up on AMCC
Matchmaker series and dropping their PCI controllers. Yup, high and dry in
a couple months. Now back to PLX -- evaluating their PCIe PEX8311 part.
Looks good so far.

VME is so simple you can do it with TTL gates. We usually use a
smallish Spartan FPGA as our VME-CPU interface, and embedd maybe a
256-word transparent dual-port memory inside, shared between the VME
bus and our embedded uP. It's easy. The bus part of a system should be
trivial and not gobble up much real estate.

Yeup. Our card went for $12K when we sold out VME version. Our card's
embedded processors had more processing umph than the CPU at the time... Sad
to say that our embedded processor has now become the bottle neck (as well
as obsolete).

Yup. CPUs don't stay in production long, especially Intel CPUs. We're
still using MC68332's, which seem to be hanging in pretty well.

Is that how you get the claimed life expectency, no wonder I never do.

Meanwhile, I do have CFLs normally last a few thousand hours.

And I still dream of even getting that much. I guess it will happen one day.

Use might try brass with a blob (pad) of soft solder where you want to

Tin plated copper strip is also available out there in various gauges.

Tinning the attachment hole will kill any tarnish problems.

Silver Plated Copper wire works real good as a conductor too. ;-)

I understand your suggestion. In this circuit the D-FF's propagation
delay is USED (desired) to generate a runt pulse free clock. I want to
turn off/on a 1.5GHz (T =3D 666 ps) clock. As D-FF I consider to use the
MC100EP29, the MC100LVEP05 as AND.

Because of T = 666 ps the D-FF's propagation delay has to be in the
range 333 ps - 666 ps. The MC100EP29 has a propagation delay 350 ps -
550 ps (25C - 85C), so it may work.

The problem I see is the asynchronism between the switch-signal (D-
FF's D-input) and the clock: Setup and Hold times could be violated
driving the D-FF into metastable state.

It's not a simple circuit. I think Xilinx had an app note about it.

The basic idea is a FF and AND gate to make each side, and an
OR gate to merge them together. Call the FFs EnableClkA and
EnableClkB.

You have to turn them on cleanly and turn them off cleanly.
They get clocked by their own clock.

With 2 FFs, you have 4 states. 10 and 01 are normal operational
modes. 11 is illegal. 00 is a transition.

You also have an external (asynchronous) signal to select
which clock to use. It needs 2 synchronizers, one for each
clock domain.

To switch from ClkA to ClkB, you have to turn EnableClkA off
then turn EnableClkB on. From ClkB's view, EnableClkA is
anynchronous so you need a synchronizer in that path.

So if you are running with EnableClkA on, and the control
signal says switch to ClkB, first you turn EnableClkA off,
then EnableClkB can get turned on.

Shows a 100W incandescent providing 1700 lumens.

In comparison some new CFLs I have claim only 1100 lumens for an 18W and
1200 lumens for a 20W.

The 11W CFLs claim 600 lumens and that makes them only slightly brighter
than a standard 40W bulb instead of equivalent to a 60W as claimed.

I do wish they wouldn't make these silly claims for them.

Me too, and those equally silly 8,000 hour claims.
Most of the CFL's I have installed make it to 9000 hours.

I mark the "in service" date on the base body. I have a few lamps that run
24/7 that repeatedly make it to rated time.
I have also had a number of DOA's (dead from the start) and a number that
failed in the first 30 days. Note: in all cases, CFL's were installed in open
fixtures and NOT on dimmers (or electronic timers).
Some long service time failures were spectacular (lots of smoke).

Non-CFL (AKA regular fluorescent) have starter failures that are more frequent
than CFL failures. These lamps are in locations that are not suitable for CFL
(Closed fixtures, High/low temperatures) , Yard lights, Bathroom fan and
Attic crawl spaces.

I haven't been counting the precise hours but the ones I've had have lasted a
long, long time.
