With regard to a POTS line the VF bandwidth is some 300 - 3400Hz - hardly hi-fi
- so optimal flat frequency response is not an issue.

The fact that the secondary impedance of the 600 ohm transformer does not match
the input impedance of the sound card is totally unimportant in this

I guess I assumed pulse transformers needed to be wound that way
(trifilar).
Separate windings are actually easier to wind from my experience.

Actually, I haven't got a clue. I hoped someone more familiar with
triggering
SCRs would fill me in on that. I've done searches but all I've found
is on
commercial sites that want to sell pulse transformers.

Is the core black ceramic or painted?

Actually it is painted blue on one side and the other side and
circumference is
painted very light green. The core is from a Pulse Engineering
transformer but
I couldn't find any information on it anywhere on the web.

It might be a
powdered iron core, that includes distributed gaps, that
make it useful for designs that include DC in the windings
or emphasize energy storage in the inductor, rather than
simple transformer action of pure AC.

I'm guessing it is ferrite from what I assume was it's intended use. I
have two
cores so I can bust one open if that would give helpful information. I
would
think the low inductance I measured would mean it is a low mu core
intended
for high frequency use, but I stand to be corrected and educated on
that
assumption.

Proprietary information (ie not Usenet) is 'useful' to control, it also
generates advertising revenue for both Google and Yahoo and gives them a large
locked-in audience for their other products.

Don't forget also that most people coming online in the past few years never
went through the BBS / Usenet phase that most older online people did, so they
had nothing to reference against.

Yes. We are better at sensing discontinuities too, than we might think. We
can fool vision with RGB but when presented with purple and monochrome
violet we can see the difference without difficulty. Same goes for the
orange of laser or LED or low pressure sodium, or that made by mixing red
and green. We usually know when we're seeing a pure form of colour, and
it's only conditioning that allows us to easily accept things like TV
screens. (Which chop out all red below about 635 nm, as it happens, as

As far as natural light goes, we are best satisfied by a true continuum

daylight, usually, and LED's make a much better continuum than CFL's do. If
CFL's could do better they probably would, but I haven't seen one that

I have been happier with the color rendering of CFLs than that of most
white LEDs. I have found most white LEDs to make reds and greens appear
duller. I have also seen the color-dulling effect of most fluorescents
with color rendering index outside the range of 82-86 (though high is
better than low). The key here appears to be ratio of yellow content to
red and green content.
