I came across a large box of unused assorted transistors in a box of junk
from a TV and video repair business that had closed down and left them all
at our rubbish tip trash and treasure exchange. Most are new although some
are rather superficially corroded on the metal cases.

I have searched athttp://www.alldatasheet.com/to identify the components
and have had some success, but many of them do not show an exact match.
Although I am a telecom engineer, and know a bit about them, I haven't had
much to do with such components for quite a while.
I want to make use of some in a couple of projects, but lacking the data
sheets I'm not sure what is what, although many are obviously power
transistors of some kind.

Is there a good source of data sheets for older components other thanhttp://www.alldatasheet.com/

Sometimes the above website comes up with similar numbered components but
they are obviously different components, just from the physical appearence..
Here are just a few I can't exactly match. Figures after the comma are
secondary numbers listed on the components under the main mumbers.

are literally hundreds of others, transistors big and small.
Can anyone suggest where I might get datersheets on these "antique"
components please?

but I will look at it. We need a reset MOSFET with low capacitance.

In ultrasound we use more esoteric timing schemes where precision is
paramount. Not sure if something like this would work in your
application but may be worth a thought:

Your delay gen runs on a fixed clock and a programmable register sets
the number of delay "bins". Pretty much every uC can do that, some
possibly up to 100MHz. Now your nuclear detector trigger signal happens
to arrive not on a clock transition but, say, 4nsec later. <snip

I just don't see how to implement 64 delays like this with resolution
down to 20 ps and max delays up to 15 us. I'm sure I could do a few
channels the way you suggest, but the amount of multiplexing, etc. just
seems like it can't be done that way.

idiots. They are not worth it - what I do is just ignore them and

immediately and waste less time on purging them than I waste

If this is a typo from the original spec that your sample datasheet
represents, it certainly has gone on for a considerable length of
time.

There should probably be some official notation made, if only for the
sake of museum records, before unprinted reference resources who can
clear it up disappear. I'm sure data for these parts was published and
republished over the years of the part's commercial life.

Anyone with access to other data sources concerning these part numbers
is requested to respond to this news thread or by e-mail to
leggatmagmadotca. I've already contacted Mr Ward for any suplimentary
info to which he may also have access.

Anyone with a copy of the IEEE Spectrum magazine of March '03 is also
asked to review it's contents for more relevent information, and to
report it in a similar manner.

Hpofully there will be a more diffinitive entry available in time for
the new spreadsheet format of bipolar transistor numbers currently in
the works for free distribution on the web.

The last CK722 spec I can find dates from 1955, courtesy of Bob
McGarrah, posted as an attachment on a.b.s.e. It is still labeled as
'tentative'. There is also an undistorted version of the image from
the CK722 Museum website, with all 'm's intact. This apparently dates
from 1953.

Got a circuit where in hindsight the client decided they need >10 times
the juice than initially spec'd. This was truly unforeseen for them and
we have to make it work at least for a proto series. Of course, now all
those 0805 resistors in the power path would exceed their usual 1/8W
spec. Found these at 1/3W:

I plan to run them around 200-250mW. Was expecting those to be really
tall to vent off some heat but they are surprisingly flat, only 0.4mm
high. Will this become a heat problem on FR-4 for stuff that can run
24/7? Any experience?

The CTS256-AL2 is a text to code processor. It converts English text
to phoneme codes used by the
SP0256-AL2, which is a speech generator. It is all stuff from the 80-
ies, but it would be great fun to do a little project with this
chip... Any speech chips appreciated. Please let me know if you can

complicated to dispose of cleanly than a simple glass bulb with a bit of
metal in it.

Hi. I have built a circuit that outputs raw digital data in form of a
bit stream. The next step is I want to somehow read that data into
the USB port of my laptop (pc or mac), transfer it to the hard disk
drive and then on command read it back from the HDD and output it back
to the USB.

I know this may not be the correct group but does anyone know of any
software available for download that will enable me to achieve this?

It would be preferable for this software to enable me to stipulate the
through-put of the data stream.

Hello All,

Does anyone have a link or hint regarding shielded CAT-5 which is as
flexible as the better non-shielded patch cables?

Regular shielded is quite stiff. During EMC we discovered that a cable
inside a unit needs to be shielded and it has to go through a harness
that will be bent back and forth whenever a drawer mechanism opens. Not
every minute or so, just once in a while. It just can't be too stiff.

Hi,

I tool a look at your foto. It is a diode. Which exactly is not so
important. Use any diode that can handle currents above 6 ampere.
Preferrably over 10A. Voltage that of your car (12 or 24) or higher.

I do not have the circuit diagram, but made electronics for
wind-shield wipers myself, very long ago. I remember that there are
two ways to let the wipers return to the down-position after you turn
them off. You can either use a relay with multiple contacts, or you
can use a higher-current diode to let the motors run to the
down-position. I think that it is this diode.

If the wipers were blocked, the wiper nmotor will draw a strong
currents up to 3 to 6 times the normal current, and that may have
destoyed your circuit. I saw in your foto that your relay burnt out
too. It can also have been a short-circuit. So replace the diode and
relay but do not install/use/test them before you tested the wiring
for short-circuits!

It is on alternating side ant there where two TAG8730 elements.

Sometimes you can glean technical information on a product by
downloading the drivers (windows and linux) and firmware for
it and searching the files for interesting strings. One time
I found an entire changelog in ROM, and things like "8051 C
compiler version X.XX" are fairly common.

Also, for working products, you can try holding down all possible
two-key combinations while powering it up. Sometimes you can trigger
a setup, diagnostic or self-test/burn-in mode that dispays something
interesting. Also try the five three and four button combinations
that involve only the corner buttons.

but the selection has shriveled to stuff like these 3.58MHz chroma filters:

I usually need more extreme tap ratios (or impedance ratios). But even
these 3.58MHz will likely go lalaland soon because analog TV is gone for
good in the US next year. It's going to be a 100% cut, there won't be
