Toshiba TV29C90 problem; Image fades to black...

Hi Guys
a question on this thread. Does any body know the general idea with
'talking' to the lcd panels in these types of monitors. I have had aquick
look at the data sheet for one however it does not have a great deal of
information in the actual way the panel accepts data. There are a number of
connections to the panel itself such as PRa PBa PGa PRb PBb PGb etc etc. Do
they work in the same way as the 2 line types LCD panels in the way that
they are sent a sting of data that relates to a certain 'segment' on the
screen???

Hope somebody can give me some insight

IMHO you're better off getting a surplus display complete with the
correct PCI driver card and all the cables, these are so complex to
drive it isn't worth it.

you'd need a frame store (normally the video memory on the laptop),
all the glue logic used to originally drive the LCD, the
manufacturer's datasheets (which you can't normally get), etc etc.

What a shame, Adia's post didn't show up on my server. But I agree
completely and appreciate the hard work you two have put in to help
me explore my interests.

So that you will not be left out again, you'll want to periodically
visit this web page --->

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=+%22PING:+Meg!&scoring=d&as_qdr=w&filter=0

Also, to assure quality and satisfaction, I must insist that you
and Adia refrain from cross-posting to low traffic groups such as
rec.arts.sf.superman, alt.sex.animals.monica-lewinsky, and
alt.prisons.officer. Using google, you'll see that all of mine are
high traffic groups.

Finally, the page number for my last "Tasteless Lists" quote
should have been 420. I'm sorry for this terrible oversight.

I think you should have posted to news.admin.net-abuse.usenet instead - it
seems to be much more suited to this thread.

Either way, strikes me that a group in the net-abuse hierarchy is a really
POOR choice.

Followup set appropriately.

Why the blazes do sites like google feel the need to editorialize or impose
someone's morality on everyone? I keep running into it -- webforums that
forbid any discussion of sex, presumably because some religious nut has pull
with the administration, and so forth. Now Google apparently limiting access
to the alt.sex groups... that really takes the cake. :p

I have a Tektronix TDS220 oscilloscope that has developed this
intermittent startup fault:

Sometimes when the power is switched on the LCD will only show a random
number of horizontal dark/brihter lines of random widths. The LCD
backlight will not be turned on and the mainborad doesn't appear to be
working as there will be no 1KHz/5V square wave on the compensation
probe output. Also the GPIB interface will not be working. After I reset
the mainboard (switch off and on the oscilloscope) several times I
eventually manage to get it started and the oscilloscope will work fine
for then on, until it is switched off. So I suspect this might be
related to a power on reset function (firmware) not being called
properly at the startup or maybe some dodgy power supply connection to
the main board. I wonder if anyone has had a similar problem and/or
could provide some insight about what might be causing this problem.
Tektronix UK will charge Ł425 + VAT (US$775 + tax) to fix it and will
take nearly 1 month (apparently they have to be sent to Germany to be
repaired). Thanks.

I recently purchased (for $50) a copy of PTK195 which contains the
schematics, PCB layouts, parts listings, and technical troubleshooting
manual (175 pages) for the RCA CTC-195, and CTC-197 RCA projection
televisions. I'm willing to burn copies of this CD for 50% off . I'm
attaching a copy of page 21 of the 175 page manual to this message for
your
viewing pleasure.
Let me know on this forum if you are interested.

I paid $1600 for this crappy TV back in 1997, now perhaps with these
schematics I can bring the dead TV (no sound, no video, no degauss
click-click).

This may help some.

Thanks for the pointer. I took a look at that page, but it doesn't look
like half load arm is the problem. It really looks like it's a problem with
the supply spindle(?) itself or one of the gears that drives it.
