And a fairly typical case where there are pro's and cons either way, and no
real good reason to ban either AFAIK. Anybody can mount a wall outlet upside
down if they really wanted to anyway.

I do remember that item, many years back involving that issue. An
electrical inspector pointed this out while checking an installation
IIRC.
I think the sockets in question were a special setup for disco lights
or something "controlled" like that, not for a regular power socket.

One thing I have noticed with some Chinese plugs on imported equipment
is that their earth pin seems to be longer than ours
even though the plug is otherwise the same. If it is a bottom entry
plug, usually the entry will be on the top. Same with my Nokia
charger, the pins seem to have been put on it "upside down" so that
when the charger is plugged in, the body of it covers the switch on a
typical Australian single power point

Even though the UK has a different plug, their earth is also at the
top on a typical power point.

PARANORMAL TEST PROTOCOL
by Magician ť Sat Jan 01, 2011 7:18 am

THE MINDREADING VIA BIBLIOMANCY TEST IS CONDUCTED IN 2 PHASES.

QUESTION & ANSWER PHASE

STEP 1
The Tester writes down 10 yes or no questions that he has a genuine interest in finding out the answer to, not just an interest in whether I can give the answer for test purposes. The questions should cover different topics and use various formats, not all of the same type like whether something will happen in the future on all 10 questions.

STEP 2
The Tester appends 20 random digits to the first question, and uses an MD5 calculator to send me the HASH of the question and private key in STEP 3.
e.g Question 1 = Will my son pass his maths exam today?
Add 20 digits private key = Will my son pass his maths exam today? 9365012857394735289
MD5 = 8d8f057938438f0604b7b38158ea4d6d

STEP 3
The Tester thinks of a random page number (1..333) and a random line number (1..33) and send me a message like this:
Question 1 Page 200 Line 20
MD5 = 8d8f057938438f0604b7b38158ea4d6d

STEP 4
I send the Tester the Bibliomancy 'answer' to his question like this:
<<didn't study very much>>

STEP 5
REPEAT STEP 2 TO STEP 4 UNTIL ALL 10 QUESTIONS HAVE BEEN 'ASKED' AND 'ANSWERED'.

SCORING PHASE

STEP 6
The Tester posts his 10 questions in random order.

STEP 7
I have 3 guesses at each question from the set of 10 bibliomancy answers.

STEP 8
The Tester posts the 10 questions in original order with the 20 digit private keys so everyone can check that was the actual order.

STEP 9
The number of correct guesses is tallied, the expected average result is 3 out of 10.

STEP 10
If I scored above average, then my odds are calculated using a binomial calculator. A maximum of 10 Testers with 10 questions each would be required to defeat a total of 1,000,000:1 odds.

VARIATIONS
You can post on a public forum your page and line numbers, or email me.
You can put me in a sealed booth.
You can use Zenner Cards and write the questions on them.
You can skip the MD5 check if you have an unbiased umpire present.

Remember, James Randi is a psychic bashing old coot now and is not likely to understand how this protocol proves anything or bother trying. He will hide behind his media presence clause knowing that no reporters investigate anything like this anymore.

If you're a skeptic and don't think I can score 7/10 when 3 random guesses per question should only score 3/10, then I'll put up $1000 and bet you! None of the 26 Skeptics organisations that offer $5000 to $1,000,000 will take me on!

INTRODUCTION
by Magician ť Sat Jan 01, 2011 6:54 am

Welcome to my Mindreading Test Forum.

After applying to the James Randi $1,000,000 prize and Australian Skeptics $100,000AU prize
10 years ago in 2000 and 2001, I have finally worked out a 100% OBJECTIVE PASS OR FAIL MINDREADING TEST!

What I claim to be able to do that is supernatural, is to tell which Question you were thinking of by
Mindreading your question via Bibliomancy.

There was TREMENDOUS debate for a decade that answers with Bibliomancy were subjective and could
never be objectively tested!

But last year I worked out that people can tell me LINE NUMBERS OF A BOOK instead of asking me
the question itself. Because they don't tell me the question, it's possible to objectively test Mindreading,
I just have to look at a multi choice set of questions, and by KNOWING THE ANSWER to the question that
was TELEPATHICALLY ASKED, I can work backwards and TELL YOU WHAT YOU WERE THINKING.

The test is EXACTLY THE SAME PROTOCOL as the standard ZENNER CARD test, but instead of having
meaningless wavy lines and stars to think about, you could just write 10 questions on 10 cards and
I can tell what card you are holding!

In the first test, MINDREADING TEST 1 conducted by MENSA member and Triple Nine Society qualifier
BruceS, he asked me 11 questions and I scored 7 right.

Now paranormal investigator AB is about to ask 10 more questions with a more rigid protocol for
MINDREADING TEST 2.

Can I defeat the required preliminary test odds of 1000:1 with just 21 yes / no questions?

I cannot see the spiral structure. Presumably the receptors in my eyes
are saturated.

Yet when I look away, I find that in the afterimage, the structure is
clearly evident. Apparently receptor saturation is not such a simple
process.

That is, something invisible in the image is visible in the afterimage.

Not sure what, if any, significance this has, but if there's a Nobel
prize in it, I could do with the cash.

Try this some time:

Get a serious photoflash, 100 joules maybe. Get dark adapted, and look
at a newspaper or some other detailed object at short range. Flash it.
The sequence of afterimages is amazing.

1. Atomic whiteout

2. Crystal clear spooky image. You can't read much of the print
because you can't pan the image

3. Clear reversed image

4. Fadeout

Yup! The charge will go through, you have to fill in a form and wait weeks
for resolution. Even if you cancel your card on the spot, that fraudulent
charge will go through, and you have to wait weeks for resolution via the
claim form.

This is the info I got from my bank when I tried to hold/stop a suspected
fraudulent web site charge from going through.

The banks attitude is that any charge on your card will be paid, and your
only option is to register a complaint about that charge -- they refused
to stop a charge from going through.

I was lucky in that email to the site concerned resulted in a refund made
by the site, and they amended their confirmation email text that triggered
my "I've been had" response to the bank.

Trust me, I have had all too many brief and long determined phone calls to
my bank, and am awaiting the outcome of an FOS claim. But the ombudsman
is run by the banks, for the banks, I don't see any resolution there
either.

Banks are on the nose -- they invent new charges all the time and are
creaming off way too much for their services. Apparently with the Govts
blessing :( The banks cover themselves for CC fraud with the high
interest rate -- they don't care about the individual in potential
short term disaster.

I believe that most banks have a policy of writing off the $50 that
they could (by law) hold you responsible for. It's probably not worth
their time to do the required investigation, and it's probably good PR
for them to say that their credit cards have a "no risk if stolen or
the number is misused" policy.

That's the bank's prerogative, though, not the law. To be certain of
preserving your rights, you should always report the fraudulent
charge(s) to the bank in writing as soon as you notice them. The bank
could (if they chose) hold you responsible if you don't do so...
making a phone call is not legally sufficient.

Matters are likely different if the fraudulent charge comes from a
merchant with whom you have a history of doing business (i.e. previous
legitimate charges). In this case, the bank would probably treat it
as a dispute over a purchase (i.e. quality or non-delivery of goods)
rather than a pure-and-simple theft, and they may require you to jump
through the hoops involved in attempting to resolve the dispute by
working in good faith with the merchant. (Or, they may just say "OK"
and issue a charge-back against the merchant... I've heard business
owners complain that banks will often do this at the drop of a hat,
without ever speaking with the merchant to find out what their side of
the story is).
It's up to the merchant to prove their side of the story when confronted
by a charge-back. Trouble for merchants may be lack of signature for
Internet orders, I've been asked to provide extra info by a couple computer
companies -- the guy I spoke with when he phoned had been taken for too
much, needed the info.

Another company simply cancelled the order when I queried the terms of
their credit card extra info requirement. They seem to feel better off
losing a sale than arguing the point. Seems stupid to me, but I dunno
how bad it is for the merchant, to favour losing sales over risking bad
transaction. I think one could fake their extra ID requirements if one
wanted to do the dirty -- but they obviously survive with a policy of
no new customers wanted.

Here is a question about something I recently stumbled upon.

This is actually about a device proposed in a very very (Internet Age)
old thread at physforum.com.

The device seems kind of interesting, as it supposedly should allow
for the imagining of the electromagnetic structure of the human body.

I cannot claim that I know of any benefits this would provide, except
at best perhaps cool photos? Or perhaps it would be useful like an MRI
scan...of course with the difference that instead of atomic structure
it would show the electromagnetic structure of the body?

Anyway what I mainly wanted to know is whether this would even work as
proposed in the posting.

The posting is here:
Magnetic Rod - Electromagnetic Imaging Technology, View realtime video
electromagnetic body
http://www.physforum.com/index.php?showtopic=3161
It starts off OK describing the magnetic field mechanism that's typically
used in MRI scanners, although the pedantic nature of the initial
description rang a few alarm bells. Then it goes off into la-la land about
half way through. Search Kirilian and a thousand other related topics.
