Is there a "best brand" LED ?

Samsung

No, it isn't LED TV. It is LED-backlit LCD. Currently subject of
false-advertising actions.
Yes, I know, but it is using LEDs, and it does seem to have a better
picture than normal LCD.

Also for LCD

Sony Bravia

Model-for-model, spec-for-spec, Samsung do better sometimes.

/ Plasma?

Panasonic

My LCD TV has a LED in it too. That does not make it an LED TV. An LED TV is
a TV where the active emitting devices are LEDs. They are hoping that people
won't read deeper, and think they are buying the latest generation of TV
technology, rather than a variation of the LCD type.

I just recently learned that a friend bought the biggest and latest

LED billboards have been around for a while, with conventional sized LEDs,
you can vary LEDs output with varying voltage. I assume you know that all
colours can be made with 3 component colours.

No, it isn't LED TV. It is LED-backlit LCD.

Yes, but OLED TV's *are* available if you don't mind the small size
and high price at the moment.

My issue is that Samsung a deliberately fudging the distinction between LCD
and LED TVs.

OLED or whatever other variety of LED is eventually produced is irrelevant
(OLED is the current SOTA) - the main thing is that the LED is the active
emitting device. Or should be.

I saw a couple of these "LED TV's" at harvey norman yesterday, they
had a sticker on the set saying "LED TV" or "LED screen" etc and then
in small letters underneath something like " *led backlit screen" /
" *led backlighting" etc , so read the fine print carefully.

Hello Mr Ghost,

Tosspot's playing the same games over on aus.electronics that he
previosuly played on rec.audio.opinion and aus.hi-fi. He's been
spanked for telling porkies here, so he scurrries away to another
totally unrelated group, where he believes no-one knows enough about
the subject to challenge him, and began spreading his rants about guns
and gun owners.

Reproduced below is some of the stuff he's recently put on
aus.electronics.

The truely intereesting thing, is that no-one over there has a problem
with what Trevor has to say, but as soon as an alternative viewpoint
goes up, the start whingeing and ranting about off-topic posts.

A number of them have been quite busily teeling me to piss off, but
not one of them has challenged their "long standing" member about his
rants.

You'l note he's even brought out that old chestnut implying that a DGU
requires a dead body.

Oh, and we're all "psychopaths" who shouldn't be allowed to associate
with "normal humans"

What a pack of wankers.

Feel free to ask Trevor about his claims that US gun dealers are using
gun shows to avoid carrying out background checks so they can sell
guns to criminals. I've asked him, but in true Trevor Tosspot style,
he's provided no evidence to support that assertion

that, in the US, something like 400-odd people are shot and killed by police
in so-called 'justifiable homicide' acts each year. This figure needs to be
examined in the same light as the number killed by civilians in similar
circumstances. The figure for civilians is approximately 230 PA. That figure
needs to be tempered by the inadequacies of the laws in places like Texas,
where lip service is paid by LEOs under many circumstances. Additionally,
one must bear in mind that the number of civilians killed by gunshot each
year in the US is approximately 10,000. Clearly, carrying guns for self
defence purposes is a failed experiment. It is an experiment that many of
the nutters in the pro-gun lobby, here in Australia, wish to duplicate.
These are the same individuals who seem to feel that shooting native ducks
and other indigenous critters is, somehow, sporting. They seem to consider
that the indiscriminate spraying of lead shot into pristine environments,
whilst causing the needless suffering of wild animals is all in a good
cause.
