Not only did it look like it but the seller simply copied the instructions from
his listing on Ebay (note the instruction about contacting the buyer on the
email address listed with Ebay).

As for the item he is selling it looks rather dangerous to me since he is
promoting it as fully operational by simply plugging in some tubes, ie. (no
fuse, an illegal 3 pin socket (?), old cloth covered rubber insulated flex, no
grommet for cable to 3 pin socket for starters.

they look nice and shiny but have weak heat transfer and won't tin. The
most recent instance came up with problems after less than a weeks
service, in time gone by a tip would last for a year or more.

I wondered whether my resin cored solder might be the cause of the
problem, the roll I have is also years old. Can't see anything else that
would cause a problem. Any thoughts?
I should add, it's not a temperature problem, the tip temperature is still
fine.

have a policy for it
"Sellers may not charge eBay buyers an additional fee for their use of
ordinary forms of payment, including acceptance of cheques, money orders,
electronic transfers or credit cards or PayPal fees. Such costs should be
built into the price of the item."

Ebay's long-maintained this rule, even though it has been challenged many
times since credit card surcharges became legal in Australia.

Ebay's ineptness when it comes to the way Ebay and PayPal try to forcibly
manipulate the way the buyer/seller relationship can be developed knows no
bounds, and it's this reason that so many sellers are abandoning Ebay for
real Australian online selling sites like Oztion, sellmystuff, etc.

Ebay doesn't pay GST in Australia either.

Oztion is in a different basket to eBay, and if you could compare the two
I
believe Bay would still come out on top - the reason: it operates
world-wide.

The benefit of eBay is the ability to purchase goods from next door or
across the world - using the same site, the same payment method and the
same
ratings system.

It is for this reason I believe eBay is still around when many other AU
auction sites have come and gone -and it is for this reason that Oztion
won't be able to compete or succeed.

For me as a high volume e-bay buyer, Oztion is a waste of time, it full of
failed e-bay sellers and by the prices there asking, it's no wonder.
Just do a quick scan of the CD and DVD-music pages to see that the number
of bids being placed is practically zero.
As far as e-bay is concerned, nothings changed since there fee paying
implemented changes did a back-down.
And as far as the buyer is concerned, it's a good system, Try getting a
full refund when you pay by direct deposit, Can't be done. I,ve had a
couple of disputes with sellers over the years and every time pay-pal have
come through with a full refund.

Not my experience. I charge $2-$5 less per item (i.e. passing on the
savings) and sales are ticking along nicely.

examples,,

Seller: collydollychardonnay
$28.00
$10 here

Plus $3.00 for postage thats $31.00 can be had for $18. 00 in Big W

BECCY COLE - LIVE @ LIZOTTE'S - CD/DVD - NEW -

Some of these sellers have rocks in there heads, or there so full of there

That is true of several types of items on Auction sites, DVDs are
another example but on the other hand it is often the only place you
will get a rare DVD or CD.

Postage costs are the killer for many internet purchases

Surely just another lesson in the 'buyer beware' classroom

Phil is a very clever and knowledgeable chap.

No.

In my opinion he's someone with limited technical exposure who thinks he
knows it all.

You run into them everywhere.

Usually they've got two years of college, had a low level job for a
couple of years and scratches a living on the edge of the technology
business.

Anti-social, lives with their parents or in a bedsit, can't afford to
keep up to date with anything but the technical press and doesn't do their
laundry often enough.

Occasionally they fool someone rich, look up someone known as 'Magic
Alex'...

William Black

Magic Alex??

Now there's a name from the past!. Brilliant, innovative,
passionate, intriguing, endearing and totally bonkers!

If LTC synchronizers had been available at the time for analogue
tape machines, he could have turned his dreams into reality. As
it was, he cost the Beatles close to half a million pounds!

I met him once when I went with a group of colleagues for a tour
of the unfinished Beatles' Apple Studio, in the very solubrious
Saville Row, in London's West End.

I'd love to see an American history book. They must get these ideas from
somewhere.

The Scandinavian nations in general seem to hold the US
in rather low esteem. There are often comparisons in the
Swedish press of American and Scandinavian educational
systems, social policies, salary levels, political structure,
etc etc.

In most instances, the US comes out very badly. It seems
that the US Bachelor degree is at roughly the same
academic level as the Swedish school leavers' certificate.
A gem that made me chuckle was the disclosure that
60% of American high-school students thought that
Joan of Arc was Noah's wife:)

While most Scandinavians are fluent in two or more
languages (more difficult than English) some areas of the
US have a 47% illiteracy rate, and many millions of
Americans don't have a bank account because the
use of an ATM is too complex for them!

It seems to that a large percentage of Americans did
not know how many states make up the US .
Even Barack Obama thought there were 57!

In addition only 26% of American high-school
students knew anything at all about the EU, and only
a tiny percentage knew how many nations comprised
the European Union. Not one of those interviewed
could name them all (25 at the time) In view of the
alarming lack of general knowledge, and to avoid
dragging the average percentage of correct answers
into single figures, the question "How many of the
EU member nations belong to NATO?" was not asked.

Worrying?

I wear with pride the tee-shirt, given out by the
hotel in Saigon, on which is written in Vietnamese
"I am not an American" :)
