Why even go to a french resaraunt, let alone honor them by wearing a
tie?
Because they taste 10E640 times better then Mc Donots.

I made the mistake of staying in a Radison Hotel on the recommendation
of a co-worker- what a sickening dump. They did tolerate me walking
around the place in jeans and button down shirt- but the aura of the
place was one of being a garish toxic waste dump- and they allow
Australians in there. It will be Motel 8 for me from now on...try it
sometime, uneventfully pleasant and always a Bob Evans nearby- who have
modernized their menu BTW- healthy if not a dining adventure- salmon
steak dinner with fresh vegetables for 8.95 and prompt service.

We don't have Bob Evans out west, but when I visit my Dad I fly into
Columbus, OH and stop somewhere along US23 and grab lunch at a Bob

revising for a telecommunications module and can't seem to find

whether I am doing it right.

Typical question:
A 10.1nH inductor at 1GHz is purely resistive. The measured value of
resistance is 127ohms. Calculate the parasitic capacitance. [2 Marks]

If an inductance (assumed to be a lumped inductance) looks resistive,
then it is being resonated (canceled) at that frequency by an equal
magnitude capacitive impedance. Magnitude of inductive impedance is
2*pi*f*L. Magnitude of capacitive impedance is 1/(2*pi*f*C). Set
them equal and solve for C.

Impedance? It's reactance. Impedance takes resistance into account.

As I understand it, impedance is a complex value. Reactance is the
magnitude of the a purely reactive impedance. So I could have just as
well used the word reactance as magnitude of impedance. But since I
was referring to purely reactive components, I think I am not wrong.

I knew what you meant. Might cause a little confusion for a newbie
though.

A new report from two think tanks--one Canadian, the other American
--evaluates the relative economic freedom of every American state and all
major Canadian provinces. Assessing the overall size of government, level of
taxation, and several measures of the intrusiveness of government regulation,
the researchers find that economic freedom has increased, overall, in both
nations since the early 1980s.

Delaware, Tennessee, and Colorado topped the index overall as the most
economically free places in North America, while Alberta, in the middle
overall, ranked as the freest Canadian province. West Virginia, America's
poorest state, was rated as the least economically free place in the U.S.,
while Quebec ended up at the bottom of the Canadian heap, and the very bottom
of the overall North American rankings.

Some surprises do emerge: Massachusetts lands near the top of the index. And
Montana does almost as poorly as West Virginia when it comes to economic
freedom.

Total state and local revenue constituted a smaller share of income in
Massachusetts than in all but six other states; that is, Massachusetts ranks
44th among the 50 states. In fiscal year 2000, state and local revenue
amounted to 13.9 percent of personal income in Massachusetts, compared to the
national average of 15.5 percent (Figure 1). State and local revenue would
have been $3.5 billion higher in FY00 if Massachusetts had been at the
national average.

Massachusetts also ranked in the bottom half of all states in terms of total
taxes as a share of personal income. In the Commonwealth in FY00, taxes
equaled 10.5 percent of personal income, slightly below the overall national
level of 10.8 percent and 30th out of the 50 states.

While Massachusetts’ income tax collections, as a share of personal income,
were higher than most states in FY00, its sales and excise tax revenue was
nearly the lowest in the country. In fact, the only states with lower
consumption taxes were the five states without any general sales tax at all.

Over the last 20 years, Massachusetts has cut revenue more than any state in
the nation. Massachusetts ranked 7th in total “own-source” revenue in 1979,
but, by 2000, it had fallen to 44th. Over this 20-year period, state and local
revenue fell by 10.3 percent, while, nationally, state and local revenue grew
by 13.1 percent (Figure 2).

Whats the difference between an ordinary zoo and a cajun zoo? Ordinary zoos
have signs giving the english and scientific names of creatures. Cajun zoo
signs have a recipe.

I don't understand the relevance of these URLs. The first lists state income
taxes, not income and local property taxes and sales taxes.
The second two give info on two states. I'm not saying Mass. is the lowest
taxed state in the USA, just that at 19th rank, the "Taxachusetts" label is
not really accurate. By the way, the second URL you give is inaccurate;
clothing is tax free, up to I think $250 per item.

The pdf at the top post clearly shows MINNESOTA IS #4, MASSACHUSETTS IS 19TH!

I wasn't asserting that Massachusetts was highest, just posting some
current data.

However I do believe that Massachusetts has quite high _property_
taxes, but I couldn't quickly find a URL. I can't confirm accuracy,
but I've heard tales of rates 2-to-3 times that of Arizona.

I think these stats are unrealistic as regards cost of living and effective
taxation. I refuse to believe that California - where I reside - is the
24th highest taxed state in the Union. In other words half the nation pays
more in taxes than we do? Impossible. They need to factor in hidden taxes
such as "purchase and use" tax on just about everything from automobiles to
fax machines, property taxes, not to mention the embedded environmentaly
driven taxers on gasoline and utitlities - fees for the hearing impaired,
earthquake victims, gender-challenged etc...
