So you grew old living your life with feelings like that.
Hmm. Centuries of living like rats DOES bring a person to
where you are. You're excused.

about joining me in a belated new year resolution to call it a day?

But what is 'culture'? A man may not know French literature but knows

Who was it that said "Whenever I hear the word 'revolver' I reach for my
culture"? And of course, you can take a horticulture but you can't make
her think.

No, I meant "foreign-born". Foreign, in this context, means "not USA."

Boor = farmer? Again, contempt for the people who grow our food.

No, it's not contempt at all. It's the way language changes and
develops.

You are talking to the windmills. Larkin is a stupid peasant. While
his postings are grammatically correct, he talks from his arse.
I think what he's trying to say is that, in some places, "peasant" is simply
an offensive term, particularly in places founded on the concept of
non-static classes. People who use such a term as anything but a joke
aren't going to seem very respectable. It's not a dirty word at all,
because you generally don't ever hear it in anything but period pieces and
history books, it's only a notches or two down from a racial slur if used as
an actual insult (when the person hearing it understands what it means).

There is no such thing as a classless society, at least not so far. But
when society works to maintain a non-static class structure (ie you are the
life you build, not merely the one you're born to), the concept of belonging
to a hereditary class (good or bad) is a little crude and generally
insulting. Even the suggestion of nobility or high birth is something that
people born into wealth usually try to avoid... because it's degrading to
most people.

I wasn't addressing hunting with guns, because that doesn't have the
same alleged social implications (except game shooting).

What other kind of hunting is there?

In a British fox hunt, the dogpack tears the fox apart. The riders
just chase the pack cross-country, the goal being to be present at the
kill.

But I've heard of many farmers who've crashed their airplanes.

No. Ideally, the ONLY purpose of any country's tax dollars should be to
create stability. Without stability, it's not possible to enjoy what you
make before it's wasted, stolen, etc. Foreign aid is necessary to create
global stability.
The only purpose of any tax is to enrich the ruling class at the expense
of the ruled. Always has been, and always will be, world without end, amen.

In an ethical society, there is no excuse for institutionalized theft.

You're not talking about the REAL America. You are talking about
corporate America. Bush and his administration are the most un-American,
ignorant and corrupt vermin to ever gain power, and they have stolen
over a trillion dollars of public money for their corporate cronies.

Prove it.
