No, it's the reverse. The wealthy are generally fit, and the poor are
increasingly obese. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that food
here is astonishingly cheap, and most of the fast and pre-cooked food
- which is very popular among the poor - is loaded with salt and
grease. One hours work at the legal minimum wage will buy five greasy
hamburgers at Burger King.

I think people in the US just think differently. Ideally, the ONLY purpose
on tax dollars is to run the US - nothing else, and it should be minimal at
that (ie government is meant to be reduced the the minimum required).
Charity falls primarily into the realm of the individual - which is why we
manage to provide a massive amount of funding (almost half of global output)
and still look bad when Europeans want to take issue with us (by assuming
that because most of their funding comes through tax money, so must ours).

salad bar. Malnutrition is a function of ignorance, not income. Can we

I have been a libertarian since I was old enough to vote. I voted
Democrate once (for JFK) and Republican once (for Dubyah in the latest

No. Ideally, the ONLY purpose of any country's tax dollars should be to
create stability. Without stability, it's not possible to enjoy what you
make before it's wasted, stolen, etc. Foreign aid is necessary to create
global stability.
