Christmas vs "Holidays"

rene posted:

Lucky those who can choose between holiday and Xmas.
Possibly employees, nothing-doers and slaves.
There are others to that these couple days at the
year's end mean a lot of work can be done.
Eg me : selfemployed, the days are never long enough,
the weeks are not not long enough and the year is not
long enough to do all the work that has to be done.
The 25th is family day, the others are work days.
You are describing a lifestyle, and that is a matter of choice; one you will
come to regret. Get out of that rut.

I've always been kinda partial to Fred, except for his excitability. He
was, after all, on the side of Truth, Justice, and The American Way during
the election fiasco. ;-)

I haven't been to church much lately. However, when I was still
attending, it was pretty clear from the sunday school stories that it
was the Romans who killed Jesus.

There IS independent evidence of responsibility, but the result is that
the incident (if it occurred, and something superficially like it
probably did) must be regarded as a conspiracy.

The Jews didn't have a death penalty at the time; the Romans wouldn't
let them. So the high priests had to get Pilate to condemn anyone they
wanted to kill. It seems he was liable to acquiesce to avoid a riot.
Ummmm... "evidence"?

I don't have access to a university library to give explicit citations.
It would need to be a very good library anyway, like the Bodleian, to be
able to trace back to the original Roman legal records.

I just wanted to comment that this is the first time I've ever seen a
cross-posted topic of this caliber be discussed in a reasonable,
intelligent, and non-attacking manner. Some of the most superficial,
trivial stuff can cause the most heated and hateful postings in so many
other groups.

Must be a lot of adults here. Thanks.

The secularists have been chipping away at the word Christmas

I got a politically correct "holiday card" from my congresswoman,
Loretta Sanchez today. No mention of Christmas, just a picture of
Loretta sitting on the fireplace ledge, petting her cat with a few pine
cones and tree branches on the wall. Can't imagine why she sends me a
card, I don't belong to her party, and never vote for her. Maybe it's
the free postage for members of congress. Our tax dollars at work
again, mailing thousands of politically correct holiday cards, with no
mention of Christmas, to attract a few secular votes.
