Yeah sure. I have not posted a single time in this thread that was
informative.

You are a fucking putz, just like I pegged you so many times
before.

X-Newsreader: Forte Agent 2.0/32.646
which is hardly "new".

It is the newest 'free' (read hacked) version he could find. ;-)

Folks quit breaking software at some point. To many packages phone
home these days. That is why nobody took the time to try to break
any of their newer versions.

I like forte but have not had it up in a long time. That is where
my 100 nyms went away to. And as I always said, I always included
indicators that the nyms were all from one source... me. So I never
was hiding or whatever the denigrators bark. They were an amusement
and usually related to the post topic they were used under.

I actually did find it funny about Terrell and Thompson and their
stupid list.

You cannot blame them for that. That is an inherent lean in Usenet.
Moderation is lame. Diversity got us where we are today in science and
education, etc. etc. ad infinitum.

Topic drift is great! Throughout the history of man, in fact.

Trump got himself elected that way. Not saying it is great at that
level. There, the truth matters. And he is no respresentative of
that.

I consider it an old problem converted into a modern benefit. In this
newsgroup, I often find the divergent topics to be more interesting
than the original posting. I can't help it if everyone (including me)
is too lazy to start a new thread.

If it helps, please not that I consider topic drift to be a game. The
object of the game is to change the topic before everyone gets bored
with the original posting. The favored method my post practitioners
is to never reply to the main points of someone's posting, but rather
to reply to some obscure comment buried in the details. While this is
not strictly topic drift, the results are identical. I've considered
offering points or something equally useless to those who lock onto
trivia and ignore the topic and original question, but lack a suitable
standard scale or units of measure needed to do this efficiently.

Trump got himself elected that way. Not saying it is great at that
level. There, the truth matters. And he is no respresentative of

How do I know that you're telling the truth? How do I know that
you're not a Russian fake news boot contrived to change readers
opinions in S.E.D? Can you really be trusted to tell the truth? Is
it better to assume that everyone lies and not believe anyone.

Anyway, think positive. Trump is a good example that we don't really
need a functional president and can survive quite well with a Twitter
robot, fake news dispenser, etc. I propose that we split the office
between the president who acts as a figurehead, and someone well
hidden in the government that does the real work.

Huh? From your header, you're apparently running a really ancient

I bought it new about x years ago, left it in a drawer for decades,

If you are having trouble telling whether Trump is a blatant liar,
then I think you should remove the horse blinders or get your optical
prescription checked.

Here's a spot of topic drift for you.

Ronald Reagan was a prime example of a president who acted as a figurehead, while the people who pulled his strings did the real work.

Reagan showed early signs of dementia when he was running for his second term - an acquaintance named Brian Butterworth pointed this out at the time and it made the UK papers - and Contragate makes it clear that he wasn't in charge (because he didn't go to prison when Oliver North did).

The consequences of that period look fine to our right-wing nitwits - James Arthur is a fine example of that breed - but the rapid rise in income inequality in the US started with Reagan's presidency and that looks unfortunate to anybody who can understand statistics.

You are an idiot. North did not go to prison.

And Reagan AND his wife had more on the ball than you think. Despite
the standard 'historical facts' protrayed by *some* of his biographers.
His influence in the office was not as puppetlike as the dopes like you
state.

Reagan had a long history as a scab. His Screen Actors Guild was set up to undercut the older Actors Equity Association, and during the McCarthy era he was an informer for the FBI and and active supporter of the blacklist (which the Actors Equity Association wasn't).

He was politically knowledgeable, but essentially his skill was in getting the best bribe from the employers for betraying the interests of the people he pretended to represent.

He might not have been a puppet, but he did do what he was told to as long as he was paid enough.

What on earth makes you think that?

I'm not as statistically sophisticated as my cousin, who had a Ph.D. in the subject and ran the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Oganisation's statistical consulting service for some years - he spent some time as a professor of statistics but didn't like the job as much - but I did know enough to try to get him to consult on a problem I had.

Sadly. he wanted more money than my employers were prepared to cough up and I ended solving the problem for myself.

The level of statistical sophistication required to understand what "The Spirit Level" is saying isn't all that high. It was put together by medical epidemiologists, so you do have some grasp of statistics to understand it, and there are people around here who couldn't manage that, but it wouldn't have been as influential as it is if you needed my cousin's grasp of the subject to get the message.

Version 2.0 appeared in Feb 2004. So, you're running a 16 year old
version of Forte Agent that is 14 updates behind. I probably
shouldn't complain since I'm driving a 19 year old car, but you really
should consider at least test driving the latest version. Also, check
if you're entitled to a discounted upgrade price:

I was certain it was a lot older than that! More like 24 years, but if
you say so then that's equal to the word of G-d in my book, Jeffrey!

Fraught with perils, I'm afraid. This version took a lot of tinkering
to get it 'happy' to run under Wine in Linux so I'm frit of taking the
chance...

Haha! I only just saw that! :)
BTW, forgot to mention but you recall that RF ALC I was having trouble
with? Well, I tried measuring the amplitude variations using an RF
spectrum analyser instead of a scope and they disappeared. Steady as a
rock all the way from 4Mhz to 1.3Ghz. Weird. It simply defies all
known science, Jeff, all known science....

Eat, drink, and be merry.

This group does not represent the typical human condition. This
group leans toward being like the hoard in front of the castle in
"The Princess Bride".

I guess that makes me the Dread Pirate Roberts.

I enjoy and learn from this forum despite the ad hominems, which I look past. I assume there may be some useful bits among the tripe. Maybe the grumpiness has therapeutic value for the guy (and they're always guys, eh?).

The real fallacy is separating people into distinct "bins". We are all more alike than we are different.
