Power company possibly, if they were at fault (i.e. not lightning, act
of god, car crashing into a pole, etc.) Homeowner's insurance is
useless because of deductables.

Would a 110 vac relay be activated by a 12-15V DC transformer?
And this would mean both the relay and the siren would be powered by the
same power supply (the dc transformer) except that the relay would also
switch the siren. Is this correct?

I WAS trying to be really simple which is why the light bulb or resistor
idea sounds good.

How much damage could I do by using a resistor box and starting with a
high value and slowly working down until it worked acceptably? I guess
I
could damage something in the process, but how likely do you think it
would be?

Joy

He means connect the relay to the same power source that the transformer
is
connected to, and use the contacts to switch the output of the
transformer.
That route occurred to me but I skipped it as it seems more complex than
other solutions.

You won't hurt anything with the resistor, just don't go so low in value
that you draw more than the transformer is rated to produce, I would try
something around 470 ohms 1/2W, that's a common value. That'll draw about
25mA and should silence the beeper immediately.
Just wanted to thank you all. A 400 ohm resistor did a pretty good job of
doing what I wanted!

If it came in on the power line, the power companies insurance may still
cover it.

Check the policy. The deductable may not apply to Personal property damaged
by lightning or a power surge. You need to read your policy carefully.

Hi,

I couldn't find any defective parts so I downloaded data info (.PDF) on
this "replacement" (Fox International says) and compared it to the data (.PDF)
I downloaded on the original part. It turned out, it is the WRONG
part. I called TCE and was told that "266908" is the correct part number.
Note: Fox International's research department is unreliable.

If I repair this TV, I will post an "UPDATE:...." in Subject.

The damage was my fault when, as a result of an ice storm, I connected a
240V generator to the house system and the unequal 120V loads see-sawed
one side low and the other side high (live and learn) + the damage never
equaled my insurance deductable.

Thanks. That will serve to remind me of what NOT to do next time our power
is out.
Hurrican Andrew had me without power for a week and Katrina ... well the
power was out at our house for over a week but we were out of town.

+ the damage never
equaled my insurance deductable.
If you have checked your policy carefully or with your agent, then you have
my sympathy.

If you are just assuming that the deductable would apply in this case, it
won't cost you a thing to check and you might be pleasantly surprised.

If switched off (yes via the power reset button rather than pulling the
power plug), left some time and then powered up.
It plays dumb, display echos the key presses and midi functions normally but
no sound out of the built in speakers unless you wake it up going into demo
mode for a bit. Nothing wrong with mute/standby functions of the main amp.
No flash memory card used with it but are there switch contacts in the card
slot that should be open or closed and falsely registering a card is in the
slot?
There might be a micro reset sequence which will get everything back to
factory settings, you need to search the interweb thing
