Thanks, but I've been there b4 and all I find is other parts. EG: a 3
pin MOSFET.

Is there a sci.electronics.organ.repair or similar group?
Did you see my other post?

The datasheet for the STK032 should be appropriate. The STK032 appears
to be a higher power pin compatible version of the STK025.

http://pdf1.alldatasheet.co.kr/datasheet-pdf/view/90354/ETC/STK032/datasheet.pdf

BTW, I would disconnect the input to the STK025, before the coupling
capacitor (negative terminal), and ground it. That should confirm
whether the noise is being generated in an earlier stage.

If you need to purchase an STK025/STK032/STK036 (unlikely, IMHO), then
they are available from "sales at starcomponents dot com dot au". Cost
is AU$27.50 plus $3.30 postage (the STK036 is actually $1 cheaper). It
may be an idea to buy a spare anyway, as Sanyo has obsoleted these
devices long ago.

Oh yes! wonderful stuff, but can you still buy it? I`ve been looking
for ages, some companies list it but can no longer supply.

Thanks Franc. I have tried that pdf link twice and each time I get a
pdf saying that the server is busy & to try again later!

I'd like to try WES in Ashfield first. Only problem is, they're closed
whenever I pass by.

I looked in the WES catalogue first but was unable to find it.

This is the semiconductors section:

Looks like it`s no longer available in dear old Blighty, it`s probly got
some evil chemicals in it. Shame cos it was the best switch cleaner I
ever tried.

It shouldn't be too difficult to locate battery operated wireless
speakers (the transmitter uses a wall-wart); I passed up some
rather substantial ones (solid heavy cases, features visually
suggestive of careful design, not long ago, at Goodwill --
were priced at $4.99.

Yeah, shame about that isn't it? Could be the demand for a system such as you
require is not high enough for anyone to make a buck out of...

Battery powered wireless speakers are not all that common for domestic use
afaik.

One of the guns is dieing. Replaceing it will prolly be cheaper than
repairing it.

Replacing what? The whole monitor or the electron gun?

Pretty much *any* component in a CRT monitor is gonna cost you a good
penny, mate.
Not only do the repair shops not want to work on em they dont want em when
you say "fuck it all then, keep tha bastid".
Of course, the problems described could be caused by impurites in the
picture tube (during manufacturing) that could be shorting out the electron
gun. To get rid of those impurities, just take out the CRT, smack Samantha
Wise in her big ass and then put the CRT back in. If that doesn't work, then
just take out the CRT and bust it over Samantha Wise's head.

Smack Samantha on the ass with the picture tube then bust it over her
head to get rid of it, no fucking way anybody would want that tube
after they smacked her on the ass with it.

I think there is a piece missing from the device, it was like that when
I bought it.Looking at the inside of the tip of the device, there is a
round metal tube which has a bottom, a little philips head screw holds
the metal tube in place.

Possibly an Oudin or Tesla coil for checking vacuum systems and other
equipment with high voltage like:

That's it! My father had arthritis and bought one that included several
glass discharge tubes that plugged into the HV socket. Turn the knob to
adjust the buzzer that controlled the excitation, put the tube against
where it hurts (or Hertz) and the tube lit up with a pale blue discharge.

The UV generated a little ozone. The discharge current leaked through the
glass and produced a tingling on your skin. Neither effect cured
arthritis.

That was 50 years ago. Now I've got arthritis.

In cold weather, sometimes one of my fingers on my right hand will lock
up, arthritis, I think. When it does that, I put a little bit of WD-40 on
there.It works for me.

I remember the same one. We had the whole collection of tubes and
snazzy case. In addition to the discharge tubes, there was a tubular
metal wand that could be plugged into the spark coil. Produced
quite a jolt.

I suppose it's too late to join in the class action suit.

Yep, they show up on eBay from time=to-time, complete with the
gas tubes.

Presumably, on drives which used CAV servos, the reverse principle is used
for playing back ? If so, it must all work out the same, otherwise, a
commercial disk would not play in both your CAV computer drive, and the CLV
drive in your home cinema unit.

It could just be that the microprocessor in the drive detects the current
bit rate and reads it accordingly. That way a disk can be written in
in almost any method at almost any speed and still be read.

This compensates for buggy writers, component aging, etc.

CD/DVD/Blu-Ray are all CLV to achieve maximum storage capacity. The drive or
player can do whatever the heck it pleases in reading them.
Perhaps this FAQ explains it best:
