Hi everybody,

my tv fades to black (and back to the image then black forever)... Anyone
has seen this? Anyone with a service manual for this model? Doing a search
on the net only comes up with remotes for sale...

Thanks!

Marc

Fade to black is almost always a heater problem, bad solder. Don't go
inside if you don't know what to look for. It isn't rocket science,
but it requires a particular skillset and knowledgebase.

If you are young and love messing around with audio gear you might

How sad for you. How very, very sad for you.

Married for 35 years to an audio-loving lady.

Depends on your expected standard of living really.

If you are the "boffin" style of fellow shuffling between piles of
wrecked VCR's and talking to yourself like catweezle then yes, stay
with TV.

If you have wife, ruggies, house, ski boat etc then keep your eyes on
the ball and be flexible enough to roll with whatever technology needs
assistance integrating with normal people.

Lots of luck.

Can't find a group specific to TV repair. Is this group
appropriate..?

The way I would approach this is, to check that the source of the G2
supply is stable. If not, work in that direction. It is possible that
the fault is from the HV multiplier. Also, trace the video path from the
video amplifiers to see if the video levels are changing.

Hi.

I'm working on a Philips LTC2810/90 monitor. Periodically one of the
colours disappear shortly. I have replaced the dricer ic and the video
processor ic.
At the moment only the green colour disappear.
When the fault occur the g2 voltage changes as well as the black
current signal from the video driver.
Any clues, please??

Regards Gorm.

Fixed the problem on the convergence board and now I've got another problem.
I was watching a movie the other night and left the room, when I came back,
the TV screen was blank and I could smell smoke. Power light was still on.
I noticed that C44 on the deflection board was burned. I've never known a
capacitor to smoke. Looks pretty much like a disc capacitor. No other
components appear bad or burned.
High voltage and horizontal sweep waveform is hard on
these, and I see one burn up now and then. Replace with
correct value, probably 470pF or 1000pF 2KV depending on
which version you have of deflection board, then see if
it took out anything else. You might want to check 130V
supply, if it runs away it drives other stuff high.

thanks for the info although I've no idea what a
Acme rocket or a road runner is so I'll pass on
that.
I have an electric caravan mover that can pull it
up a hill from a 12 90Amp battery so I may use
that and try and adapt it.I wanted to see if
anyone had tried it,there's a helluva an amount of
difference between 20 quid and 200 quid to play
with.Worth a tinker I think.
Isn't a road runner some kind of fast working
street girl?it would be here in the UK especially
in SOHO. Thanks

Well, a roadrunner *is* a bird. (Sorry -- it may take you a bit to sort
that out.)

Sounds like a cold solder joint. Does it get worse or better as the set
warms up (playing for a while)

I have a Signature 2000 television (bought at Montgomery Wards, hubby
says it's a Zenith made) with sound problems. It's hard to describe
the problem, but I'll do my best and hope someone knows how to fix it.
It is as if someone is at the volume control quickly turning it on
and off. Or up and down. The is a buzz/hum in the background that
follows this same pattern. There are a few times that the sound will
be perfectly fine, though not very often. Any ideas? Thanks!

That line was put there exactly for the reason to offend.
You just didn't use the Sig because some newclients cut a quoted Sig.
So you just moved your precious Sig into the message.

At least your Sig made clear which interest you have.

Usually the ones with multilingual BIOS give you the option right when you
start setup. If not you'll have to to like on a TV when someone mistakenly
changes the language. Unles it's in Japanese or something you should be able to
find the setting.

If not perhaps to can flash it with an English update.

Not the PSX. :) The playstation 2 does not read any CDs (that means
any CD like DVDs, game CDs, etc. My friend of his son dropped
Playstation 2.
Check the tilt adjustment gear. It is a white gear located on the uppermost
part of the traverse assembly. You'll have to take off the top cover of the
drive, of course.

To the left of this gear is a sheetmetal spring with a notch on the center of
the tip. If this notch is underneath the gear instead of resting within the
gear's teeth, then the tilt adjustment is out of whack.

Reposition the notch on the gear's teeth, then adjust the gear until the notch
is in between two circular marker points on the gear itself. Reassemble and
test. - Reinhart

I've also heard about putting it in the freezer for a time and then pulling

about moisture condensing on the discs, but I've never tried that one.
This actually seems to work, but it's not 100%.

I've had it work once and suggested it to someone else who also had it work
once, it's certainly not a cure all, but for last resorts it's not a bad
thing to try.
