I'm just wondering what the point is. Obviously people are
smart enough to remove the alt.dev.null silliness because
they're replying. Presumably it takes extra effort on your
part to add it. So why keep doing it?

[1] Setting followups to alt.dev.null is, like all followups,
a suggestion to those who reply as to where they should reply.
Because I won't see any reply from the person I killfiled and
because I don't care what anyone else thinks, I insert a
suggestion of no reply from either group. You are, of course,
free to ignore my suggestion.

[2] Because certain flamers who are now in my killfile posted
personal attacks and stated a preference that I not set
followups. If such flaming is rewarded, there will be more
of it. I prefer less flaming, and thus choose to never, ever
give someone what they ask for if the request contains a
personal attack.

Am I in your kill file (which I presume I must be, given your
previous definition of plonk), because I had the temerity to
laugh at you?

that is rather sad. Although pathetic might be a better word.
Luckily I find fragile people amusing.

ROTFLMAOYA,

Terry

I don't, except when they wave their fragility like a banner making
a nuisance of themselves. For the most part they're to be pitied,
but in the case of GM all one can really do is to point and laugh
at their antics. In the long run this won't do much good either,
I've a feeling he really needs help, but he won't get it until he
admits it himself.

- YD.

After Rich's post, I thought about what I meant a bit more. I find it
amusing to see people hoist by their own petards. I laugh at, say,
anti-smut campaigners who go out of their way to find and view films
etc. which they find "disgusting." hilarious. Actually not a bad
analogy in this case.

I like the way you put it so much I'll repeat it:

"when they wave their fragility like a banner, making a nuisance of
themselves"

lovely. I couldnt help but add the comma though.

Cheers
Terry

Glad you liked it, feel free to use it as you like. I did think it
sounded a bit forced without the comma, but I'm no grammarian so I let
it slip by. Let's just hope the Apostrophe Police doesn't create a
Comma Branch :)

- YD.
LOL.

To be honest I cannot remember anything at all about grammar, and
wouldnt know a past-participle if it bit me. Hell, I can't even remember
what an adverb is.

Well, I find fragile/pathetic people merely pathetic, but I'm
somewhat revulsed at those who take amusement at the plight of
the less fortunate.

that kind of came out the wrong way. So I went to re-write it, and it

Yeah - in the other branch with YD, I noticed that it's more like
watching someone hoist by their own petard; like a guy who acts
like a fathead, even though he should know better. ;-)

Maybe "blockhead" would be more appropriate - he's certainly blocked
out all of my suggestions! ;-P

But GM is the ideal foil. Since he's plonked almost everybody here, we
can make fun of him all we want, but he'll never see us and thus won't
be offended/damaged. It's the best of both worlds!

Very zen: being mean without being mean.

Followups set.

The person who usually posts as YD <ydtechHAT@techie.com> has decided
to morph identities in order to avoid killfiles. I deleted the post
without reading it, then fed the headers into my Bayesian scorefile
system so he stays killfiled.

He also crossposted to alt.shenanigans and set followups to alt.2600.
I am looking forward to seeing those who complained about my setting
followups being consistent and complaining about YD setting followups.
So what exactly has this to do with electronics? Since you're all over
yourself with your ability to play with headers and giving lessons on
how usenet works, all I did was set the appropriate fora. Whatever it
is you're feeling unhappy about, you set it for yourself. It takes two
to tango and anyone in the know can muck up usenet headers.

Given the vacuous nature of killfiling me for the greivous sin of
laughter, the analogy is even more appropriate. The cup is truly empty.....

Do you really think people still fall for the alt.dev.null trick? Why
bother?

I see you fail to distinguish between the typical childish flamer, who
misdirects threads to upset people, and Guy Macon, who does it for our own
good.

It suddenly dawned on me, he's a Democrat ;-)

Oh, crap! Did you hear them wail tonight? "I don't know who the hell he
is (I voted for), but I'm against him".

I think the Democrats will self-destruct trying to pick-off "Mr.
Clean" that Bush just nominated to the Court ;-)

...Jim Thompson

do you really think they can organise themselves that well?
Apparently not. Mr. Nelson (D-NE) seems to rather like the guy. The
Uber-Rino from AZ seems to be on board the nuke-tipped B52, from the
R-side too. Of course Chucky-Cheese (D-NY) hates him for showing what an
intellectual lightweight he really is, in front of the Senate, TV, and his
mother. Start the popcorn, Ma! This has all the makeings of great comedy.

If Uber-RINO doesn't get his act together, he's going to be
ex-incumbent at the next election.

That's certainly Sen. Nelson's problem (Dashle showed the way for the
blues in red territory), though do you think AZans will vote out someone
that made you so famous? They won't here. We got 'em *ALL* (Jeffords,
Sanders, Leahy, and "Dumber than Dirt Dean[*]"...).
