I think that Auckland rates as the city with the most Kiwis in it, but
Sydney runs second. :)

Would that be MRI at 20- 24 Dennis St, Campbellfield?
So you just go over there, and wander around and see what they've got?
I'm interested because I'm after some networking gear and old computers.

I'd highly recommend you visit a mob called MRI. I went to MRI and
filled my car up with old A3 dot matrix printers (@ $5 each). That gave
me quite a few kilograms of steppers motors. They used one of their fork
lifts to lowered down a crate stacked full with these printers and they
let me help my self. The place is the size of an large automobile
wreckers but with old computer hardware.

Each dot matrix printer has two main large steppers, one for the papper
feed roller and another for positioning the print head. Some of the
printers also had extra smaller steppers for other things.

Hey all,

I'm doing a project and I need to get my hands on some stepper motors as
cheaply as possible. I've been told that old HP LaserJet I, II and
III's
have the kind of stepper motors in them that I need ( 100oz-inch holding
torque and 200 steps). I was wondering if anyone had any idea of
where I'd
find unwanted/broken old laser printers from which I could salvage the
parts
I need?.
I've been around to printer repair shops and most of them either keep the
printers for
their own use or have recently chucked all there old ones out :(
Alternatively are there
any other old machines out there that would have the steppers motors I
need?

Failing that, could anyone point me in the direction of any Australian
shops
(in brisbane area, or that do mail order) that sell such stepper motors.
Most of the places I have found on the net are in America.

Thanks for your help,

Nick

Well I tried uninstalling the cd software: no change, I tried the

fitting a new CD burner which, once installed allowed the hard drive to be

Thanks for letting us know you were able to sort it Mark. It is quite
a mystery then, but I have filed it away for future reference!

Just speculating here - most burning software locks the burner so that
the drive is not accidentally opened during a burn, and I wonder whether
somehow Windows became confused which drive was locked, with the result
being as you saw, after the burner died.

Glad it is all sorted though.

The hard drive isnt a WD by any chance ? Those
have a different jumper config when they are the
only drive on a ribbon cable and master of a pair.

Hi Rod, it's a Seagate ST32140A, I understand Seagate
bought one of the hard disk makers though and brought
out their designs with Seagate badges: one of these is
my ST32122A which is noticeable different to the model
mentioned above.

That was from the era when Seagate basically
ran two completely separate drive factorys, as
a result of the absorption of Conner, with the very
weird result of pairs of almost identically sized
drives that were quite different in the design detail.

God knows why they continued with that
completely insane arrangement for so long.

That drive does have a 'slave present' jumper,
its possible that it might well have produced
that odd effect you saw if that jumper was
present without a slave actually being present.

Hi John West,

Im interested in getting a handfull of second hand stepper motors. If
you still have a whole pile of old printers/spares for sale could you
email me with your location, time I can pick up , cost etc. I am in

On reaching his plane seat a man is surprised to see a parrot strapped in
next to him. He asks the stewardess for a coffee where upon the parrot
squawks, "And get me a whisky you cow!" The stewardess, flustered, brings
back a whisky for the parrot and forgets the coffee.
When this omission is pointed out to her the parrot drains its glass and
bawls, "And get me another whisky you bitch". Quite upset, the girl comes
back shaking with another whisky but still no coffee.

Unaccustomed to such slackness the man tries the parrot's approach, "I've
asked you twice for a coffee, go and get it now or I'll kick your ass".

Next moment both he and the parrot have been wrenched up and thrown out of
the emergency exit by two burly stewards.
"Burly" stewards? On which airline? And how did the stewardess manage
to get her donkey on the plane?

Sorry Rod, I wasn't clear enough with my last post
the genuine Seagate was giving trouble. The rebadged
Connor was actually giving trouble on another machine
when I tried to add an 80 gig Seagate: anyway flashing
a new BIOS sorted that machine out as it couldn't
spot a hard disk that large when booting.

Not sure, the CS1560A is a 15MHz dual trace unit, what is the CS1562?

** Dual trace - 30 or 40 MHz , I think.

Kinda hard to tell from the circuit diagram alone.

David

I have the book for the 1560 - not A. Has full pcb layout, parts list
plus schematic. I would assume only minor differences between the
1560 and 1560A. If you want a copy, email me off-list with a snail
