I am no longer doing business with businesses that don't know how to run a fucking business. I lost a few screws (no comments) and nuts (also no comments) and they are SAE. This is the US, we are the inventors of fucking SAE. What, do I have to have them shipped in from China now ?

I am going to try today to get them online but I am not a machinist and don't know exactly how to measure them. I would rather not bother with that and just walk in there with them, like say I need a screw I bring the nut, it screws in I'll take some. How complicated is that ?

If I do not have a tracking number by tomorrow I am taking my nice black silicone and forgetting all about the good screws and nuts. Nothing is going to happen, it is just not Kosher.

These people do not understand, I don't have all day. Even if I did I am not spending all day on their stupidity.

I will be straight with the client, and while I already cover things for a long time, like around a year or whatever, doesn't matter because when I fix it it stays fixed, I'll tell him I'll cover it for three years or until I leave the country, whichever comes first.

Actually I might be able to find some speednuts that'll do the trick but I really loathe those.

When someone contacts me, ESPECIALLY for the first time I try to respond as quickly as possible. I check that email several times a day unless I am sick or away. I see numbers on my missed calls I call them back, today.

Anyway if it turns out I have to order half a hardware store I will, as long as they can get it here by Monday.

AAAaargh !

Tell you little story, and my little stories are true unless otherwise noted. I'm over my friend's place, we are playing with some of his electronic toys like scopes and all that, and I brought my vape. So we hit the vape a couple times and his phone rings. And his internet is down at the moment. It is a client for whom he is doing a several thousand dollar job tweaking a design for something or perhaps designing a mold for something that is impossible to mold. (that is his job) So the guy has an error in a part number. he say OK he'll find out. Turns to me and says "Man what timing, now we hit that thing and I am high and I have to deal with business". the he says "Your smartphone work, can you look something up and help me a bit ?". Well I tried but the phone is still smarter than me so I can't really do that. I tried but I can't nagivate the sonabitch.

Now, understand this, I can handle a buzz. I can outhink most people when I am stoned. I can drive perfectly right in front of the cops after drinking a 12 pack. I can think with a buzz.

I said "Why not just call them ?". So he goes to do that and finds out that he never hung up the phone, he somehow put it in speakerphone mode and his client heard all that.

I was still thinking. He is quite the mathematician, he had to be for work. I told him "Just do what you were supposed to and just forget it, think of the odds, first of all was he actually listening ? then does he care ? he might be a smoker himself". And then even if he does care, this guy is pretty damn valuable in that field. I doubt they would drop him over something like this.

He is not a bad gambler but frankly I am much better. In fact I bet there is nobody in the city who can take me on a table with regular draw or stud. I told him, 50% chance he was listening, 50% chance he cares, 50% chance he is not a smoker, 50% chance he will drop you because of it even if he does care. Add that all up, half of half of half of half of half, it adds up to a 1:16 chance anything ever comes of this.

My life is still borderline bizarre. When I was younger I thought it was the olman's influence but he is long dead now. It is me. How many of you can tell anything like that that actually happened ?

And that is nothing. I think I am going to start my autobiography this year.. Online friend tells me I should take some license and instead of making it totally true embellish a bit, I get license he says. He is a lawyer, a senior partner at a firm in London and handles international law, but I am not sure what aspect of it now because I simple never asked. A one percenter but against most one percenters. I have decided though to keep it true.

I dunno. This was a rant. A successful business responds to its customers. A more successful business responds to its customers more. How complicated is that ? I never failed until I took on partners, I will not make that mistake again. All they see is the money, they do not understand that they have to nurture this thing like a kid so it grows right and keeps doing what it is supposed to do. It is more important than your kids. It FEEDS your kids. Want them to starve ? If you a White Man in the US you can't get shit, Black Woman, four kids she is into over a grand a month. For nothing.

Like we had a thread about Digikey. they ARE good, very good. You call them they answer and after maybe a stroke or whatever you get to a human person.. I generate my BOM on their selector guides and all that but I do not order online. I am not dealing with any software upgrades now because I need this thing to work the way it works, exactly. that's why I don't have Dropbox anymore but really from what I have seen I would have gotten rid of them anyway. Force me to get a new OS, who the FUCK do you think you are ?

Self checkout, ATM, you cut me in on what you save by putting people out of work maybe, but I am not paying the same. No. Give you a dollar to use the ATM ? No, you give a dollar or else I will be at the bank door (and the tellers are getting to know me) and then I will try to bullshit with your teller for as long as possible. What you pay her ? Maybe $12 an hour ? If I can occupy her for 15 minutes you are out $4.

I was born in the morning but not this morning. (and about the only time I was up that early) I have now seen it. Too much. I go into the next stage and that is back to don't take no shit. I think maybe we will get along better around here now.

You worked in electronics all your life and do not know how to id
assembly parts?

You should know 2-56 #4 #6 #8 #10 1/4-20.

You should know all of those at a minimum.

Hell, I know those AND metric.

US hardware is usually ordered by fuzzy text descriptions. It's worth
using the US MIL hardware nomenclature, because an MS number exactly
describes a part.

That's some definition of "Standard."

I really do appreciate your story.
It reminds me of the early seventies of the previous century (time flies now does it not)
when we had those smoking sessions in the top room of the house were I lived,

That was shortly before I quit the job and went traveling the world looking for truth,

As to the interaction with 'work'and your probability calculation,
I do remember coming from a concert with a friend where 'Earth And Fire' were playing, and running into my boss,
we were working in shifts in the TV station. he just came out the late evening shift.
I say 'hello'; and introduced my friend... just a quick interaction,
you could smell the whatever smoke it was from the cloud hanging around us.

Now my boss (I do not actually remember him having fixed any 'tronics) was the prototype
of a 'business' person, tie and all, I do not know how it exactly affected him,
but he later left and started his own company, while I was assigned to bring the group together so to speak,
create mutual understanding, as one level higher liked the way I did things it seems, you have to go with the times...

Anyways that concert was the best one I have ever been to in my life,
and still that music comes back to me at times....
they were playing:
Song of the Marching Children
http://www.earthandfire.nl/songteksten/song-of-the-marching-children/

We went home by train, and even in that train I was still playing the drums session.
Was into music those days, played trumpet.. bit of guitar..
So not to worry.

Later I sort of stepped out of that drug scene... went more into the meditation type of thing.
But what a beautiful time it was.
Widen you horizons.

Screws? I do not know, ask in a hardware shop?
That is what I did last week for the screws for the fence I build to keep the zombie lifeforms out.
Will have to do some more work on that today.

Are there any Fastenall stores in your area?
I have three near where I live, in Florida, and it looks like there are over 100 in your state. It is the first place that I go to. There website is well organized, and has CAD drawings for most hardware. common sizes are in stock at every branch, and they can get things from their warehouse fast.
They have them all over your state: https://www.fastenal.com/locations

Grainger is another good source, along with Farm Stores like Rural King.

"SAE" has to be shipped from last century, arguably a more distant
land than China, if you're dealing with millennials use the current
term, "UNF".

Not if they're intended to fit SAE nuts (as the OP indicated).

I have a set of these. They're great for ordering replacement
hardware online:

I have a set of these. They're great for ordering replacement
hardware online:
https://www.amazon.com/Thread-Detective-Identifier-Mini-Metric/dp/B071ZF2XJ8/

There are a few common metric and SAE threads that are almost
identical. For example, the 5x0.8 metric and 10-32 SAE are almost
interchangeable for a small number of threads. Distinguishing between
these two is tricky.

I use a set of thread pitch gauges something like these:
<https://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Cutting-Measuring-America-Whitworth/dp/B07PX24JV2/>
for measuring the pitch, digital calipers for measuring the diameter
and length, and various thread charts or web pages:
<https://www.fastenerdata.co.uk/thread-chart>

The fun really begins when proprietary screw heads or security screws
are involved:
<https://www.popularmechanics.com/home/tools/g2809/11-strange-screws/>
<https://losspreventionfasteners.com>
Some also have non-standard threads intended to prevent downgrading
security by substituting common screws.

Marginally related drivel: Comparison of case screws from a Fluke 85
DVM and a Fluke 8024A DVM:
<http://www.learnbydestroying.com/jeffl/pics/Fluke%208060a/Fluke-screws.jpg>
and a Fluke 8060A DVM:
<http://www.learnbydestroying.com/jeffl/pics/Fluke%208060a/>

OK, enough screwing around for now...
