You dont even have to press play if you use a PC.

So how do you play a movie?

By default, a PC will AUTOPLAY the movie on the disc when inserted to
the disc drive.

So does a DVD player. But I thought the idea of using the PC was to
play movies off it's hard drive. And what sort of connection are we
talking about from the PC to the panel? PC's don't have HDMI or
component out (do they?)
Some motherboards do now.

I thought HDMI was just DVI + audio... can you simply get an adapter?

Yep.

HDMI has a higher bandwidth DVI and the spec allows for better video
than DVI in terms of bits per pixel. DVI has a fixed number of bits per
pixel (8:9:8 from memory) but HDMI will support this and a couple
higher. About 24 months ago when I looked into it, none of the higher
bitrate formats had been implemented yet so at the time HDMI = DVI +
Audio. I would imagine things may have progressed by now and you should
look at the capabilities of the display panel as an indication as to
whether there will be any quality difference between using a DVI source
or an HDMI source.

Also, motherboards can and do have HDMI outputs. Even stand alone
graphics cards do, I have one in my pc (a bit of a waste, but it was
pretty cheap), an HIS ATI based card. After you install the graphics
card, you find that it is also a sound card (driver installs them both).
It's got 2 DVI connectors on the back so it looks like a regular dual
dvi card, but it comes with a little DVI to HDMI adaptor. Clip in this
adaptor (and select the newly installed sound card in Control Panel) and
you have an HDMI output provided purely by the sound card.

First you say it's a graphics AND sound card, then you say "HDMI output
purely by the sound card".
Obviously the first may be correct, but not the latter.
