NY knew they didn't have enough ventilators for a pandemic a

E. Stockpiling Ventilators

New York State pandemic planning includes careful consideration of the potential shortage of ventilators, based on the estimates discussed above. There is a federal government stockpile of ventilators, but its use is limited for any one locality; there are not enough ventilators to be distributed to meet demand if many regions need them at once. New York State has stockpiled 1,750 ventilators to help reduce ventilator need in the face of the moderate scenario; however, there are no current plans to buy enough ventilators for
the most severe model. The State’s current approach to stockpiling a limited number of ventilators balances the need to prepare for a potential pandemic against the need to maintain adequate funding for current and ongoing health care expenses. Furthermore, severe staffing shortages are anticipated, and purchasing additional ventilators beyond a threshold will not save additional lives, because there will not be a sufficient number of trained staff to operate them. In the event of an overwhelming burden on the health care system, New York will not have sufficient ventilators to meet critical care needs despite its emergency stockpile. If the most severe forecast becomes a reality, New York State and the rest of the country will need to allocate ventilators and other scarce resources.

They KNEW that there weren't sufficient ventilators to handle a pandemic and ROLLED THE DICE that it would not happen. And, if it DID happen, well then TOO FUCKING BAD, PEOPLE WILL DIE!

Anyone ever notice that loons always type LIKE they're SHOUTING random

Reminds me of how my ex-girlfriend used to send me text message. she was
a loon, too. you TOLD me that you were JUST GOING OUT to a BAR and you
were at a STRIP CLUB

nah it's nothing like that it's an adult exotic interpretive dance

His "economic miracle" was supposed to come crashing down in 2025 but
the stilts got pulled early.

In a turn of irony he may end up being America's first socialist

Pres. Trump DID pull off the "economic miracle" - now he is being asked to pull off a medical miracle! And guess what: he's DOING IT!! It's fun watching you libtards rooting for DEATH.

What economic miracle was that??? Trump's done virtually nothing for the economy other than not screw it up totally.

No one is asking Trump to pull off a miracle and he has had little to do with the result. He has managed to do one thing right, which was to limit air travel of some passengers from China. Yeah, his xenophobic tendencies worked in our favor for once. Too bad he didn't cut off all air travel with China as that was how most of the CV reached our shores.

I guess no matter what happens Trump supporters will see it as a win for Trump. It's not like Trump ever says what he will do. He fumbles around with he thinks something, but maybe not, we'll see how it goes. Meanwhile he has fucked up not only the US response to the coronavirus, but his dealings with North Korea are a joke. He has pretty well ruined relations with many other countries and his freaking tariffs have hurt the economy and even NOW he won't agree to remove them.

It's a total waste of time to tell you any of this because you won't believe anything you don't want to. But the other shoe will fall in November. Trump has run this country into the ground and run up the debt and now that we NEED to borrow heavily, we are already so far in debt it is insane.

This might actually be the denouement of American power and wealth. The big reset button is being pushed and China is going to be the new power when things return to operating. I bet you anything they come up a lot faster than the rest of us... especially US us.

Just like with the CEO of a company that makes a big mistake, OUT the door.

Yes he did, I remember his promise to turn the economy around.
It was growing when he was elected, now it's shrinking, I can't
think of any other campaign promise that he's kept.

So in reality Trump's persona is totally fake and intended to attract the lowest IQ members of our society so they can be lulled into doing even more things that apply evolutionary pressure to eliminate their genes?

Well, achieving the lowest unemployment rate in 50 years (pre-COVID shutdown, of course), and the lowest unemployment rate EVER for African-Americans (blacks).

The President, of course, has a GREAT DEAL to do with the results. The experts give him the data and their opinions, but he makes the final decision. He has put together an eminently qualified task force that is more than up to the task. He has also mobilized the military, both in material and manpower. He will make the decision as to when and how to bring the country out of lockdown.

Anybody that deals with Trump knows that, unlike Obama, he means what he says and WILL follow thru. Tariffs, of course, are only one tool at his disposal, but he WILL use them.

Pres Trump has been trying to warn you for years that China is our greatest threat. Maybe now you will believe him.

Indeed, the country WILL decide in November who is best fit to lead the country, and I have no doubt that it will be Trump. I will bet you a beer on it!

Seemingly anyone with any modicum of integrity would feel that he is a
danger. An immediate and present danger, to us all.

yeah and as he actually said, coronavirus is the new hoax.

looking forward also, to our beautiful easter weekend -- again, as

it would take too long to give more (daily) examples of the
moronic statements the fucking idiot has gurgled.

No, Pres Trump NEVER said that. Anybody who believes that is, per Slow Man, a STUPD HALF-WIT.

Flyguy may have missed it, but Trump does seem to have said something very like it on the 28th February 2020.

Fli is actually right about the hoax thing. If you pay careful attention to the exact words Trump used, he didn't exactly say COVID-19 is a hoax, he said the Democrats... well he said the virus... well, he babbled in his usual part sentences saying "this is their new hoax". One would assume "their" refers to the Democrats, but it is not clear if "this" refers to the virus or what. Later the White House clarified saying he simply meant to disparage the Democrats and not the virus. He has great respect for the coronavirus, it's a really great virus. The virus is doing a wonderful job of being a virus.

But everything else mkr said is spot on. But does Trump surprise anymore? He has done about everything possible to show he is an idiot and incompetent and caring more about his reelection than literally anything else including the well being of the populace.

The thing is his popularity received a bump from his bungling response to the disaster. I expect that will fade as things continue to get worse both medically and economically. But imagine the tremendous boost he would have received if he had done a proper job and organized the feds to properly support the states and by his own actions has galvanized the nation to fight this virus from day one, keeping our casualties much lower than the up to 250,000 deaths Trump is projecting. That would have put him over the top and assured his reelection.

Now instead of setting an example, wearing a mask and encouraging people to stay at home instead of filling churches on Sunday, he is helping a resurgence of the infection rate just as it was starting to level off. A week from now there will be a bump in the new infection rate lasting about a week. You can bet money on it.

This is sort of Presidential actions that sadden me. I was hoping to get out from under his four years without much harm being done.

The line quoted in the article I cited was

"Now, the Democrats are politicising the coronavirus… this is their new hoax."

That is, the Democrats were hoaxing the public by taking the corona virus seriously. The incidental implication is that the alarm about Covid-19 was a hoax.

The fact that he was being rude about the Democrats doesn't let him off the hook of not taking the incipient epidemic as seriously as he should have done.

But everything else mkr said is spot on. But does Trump surprise anymore? He has done about everything possible to show he is an idiot and incompetent and caring more about his reelection than literally anything else including the well being of the populace.

There is no such thing as bad publicity. The Covid-19 crisis has given Trump a lot of exposure, and he's done his best to hog as much of the air-time as he can.

It may take a while for the American public to realise just how badly their government has performed, but as the bodies build up, the survivors may get the message.

I expect that will fade as things continue to get worse both medically and economically. The new case per day might have been leveling off, but that's a lot of new cases every day. What you want is fewer infected people, not a steady stream of new ones.

A week from now there will be a bump in the new infection rate lasting about a week. You can bet money on it.

The Dims needed to take COVID-19 seriously in Jan, not March. When Pres Trump took it seriously then, Sleepy Joe called him "xenophobic" and "hysterical." Now, he says that Pres. Trump did the "right thing!"

Do you just make up stuff off the top of your head or do you work on it a while to give it that just right, theater of the absurd look and feel?

It is true that Trump's response was xenophobic. That was his motivation for limiting the restrictions to Chinese and not all travelers. Even so, the enemy had already crossed the rubicon and was infecting the US.

Since the end of the year when the Chinese announced they had a virus sweeping Wuhan, 430,000 people have arrived in the United States on direct flights from China. 40,000 of those were after Trumps travel restrictions.

Add to that the huge numbers of people arriving from other parts of the world with the infection which were not restricted until much later.

So just how much difference do you think the restrictions really made? Clearly the problem is not that travel restrictions were the solution. Action to slow the transmission of infections that were already here is what has always been needed and is what we have done so poorly.

Consider that if the travel restrictions were effective, why do we have so many more infected and dead than any other country in the world? Why has our problem with the virus grown so much more rapidly?

It must be the fault of the Democrats somehow. It must be that they were crying out early that the virus was a problem we needed to address. So much so that by the time Trump actually joined them in say this was a real fucking problem the public thought he was the boy who cried "WOLF".

Yeah, that's the ticket!
