Is there such a thing as a modem that has a USB socket for a 4G
mobile dongle to provide a connection to the internet, and has an
ethernet socket to allow a voip phone box to be connected so a voip
phone can use the internet connection via the USB 4g dongle?

If there is, I haven't seen one.
or alternatively is there just a dongle that has ethernet sockets for
this purpose?

There are some routers that can do 4G that are like that.
And some voip capable routers that have 4G fallback capability to so
you can just ignore the adsl2+ capability
and use the 4G fallback all the time.

can you say which ones?

Rod has an IPHONE I have a Samsung Note and a Windows Nokia Nokia
Lumia 1020, works flawlesly on all.

He's talking about routers there, not phones and tablets.

And the other obvious way to do voip is to do voip in a 4G smartphone.
That works fine.

don't want to use the mobile. want to use cordless handset

A good smart phone is the same?

Better in some ways, particularly much easier to synch
the contacts over all the devices you make calls with.

I wanted a 4G modem fall back for my cable connection and found some
routers that would provide it. The ASUS RT-AC56U, RT-AC87U and
RTAC68U

( the last two are too expensive )

can all be used this way. The expensive and extraordinarily ugly
FRITZ!Box 7490 is designed to be the central part of a phone system
and can be connected to the Internet via a USB dongle.

thanks. I'll check those

It seems like one of those Asus models will be just what I need. :)

Asus isn't the only operation that supplys routers with 4G
fallback or 4G only.

so you said, but you couldn't tell me of any

Because its so completely trivial to research that.

yeah, providing one knows exactly what one needs and what to search for.
but you being such an expert, I was surprised you weren't able to
recommend one. anyway, what about this?

http://www.dlink.com.au/home-solutions/wireless-n300-3g-4g-multi-wan-router?gclid=CPzp3ubG3MMCFZYrvQod9woACw

a lot cheaper than the asus, and seems it would do the job

We ain't your servants, fuckwit child.

damn!

4G fallback, stupid.

but you being such an expert, I was surprised you weren't able to

I did have a look at that when I was considering
getting a new voip capable router, and did find
quite a few that had 3G fallback, but that was a long
time ago now, before 4G had even been invented.

And I don’t need 3G or 4G fallback anymore, I just
use the iphone as a hotspot for that capability now.

anyway, what about this?

http://www.dlink.com.au/home-solutions/wireless-n300-3g-4g-multi-wan-router?gclid=CPzp3ubG3MMCFZYrvQod9woACw
a lot cheaper than the asus,

Yeah, that’s the big problem with 4G fallback,
its only available on the best of the modems
and they ain't cheap, nothing like as cheap
as the low end commodity adsl2+ modems.

> and seems it would do the job

Some have had problems getting it going and
dlink haven't been much help in that regard.
Like with all these things, its far from clear
how many have had it work out of the box.
