Hi
I was wondering if anyone knew if and where i could get round lcd
screens manufactured or possibly the price range if i could get
someone to manufacture it for me. I've been doing some research and
all the manufacturers seem to only build rectangular ones, but yet
i've seen at certain shows / awards that they sometimes use lcd/plasma
screens that are of a strange shape. I am looking for screens with a
radius of 15 inches.
Thanx
They're made rectangular (a) to make efficient use of the expensive
optically flat glass (b) 'cos glass doesn't break into circles.

I don't think they make them round but I'll ask the experts.

When you click on the details - you get the expected answer. I was looking
for the date on the page itself - they really ought to have put it there in
small text at the bottom.

What use they'd be is anyone's guess.

Might be great for testing the upcoming beta version of
Microsoft Portholes XP ....

Glass breaks perfectly into circles. How do you think portholes are made?

I think this explains the primary use:

Raytheon made them on this side of the pond.

:)

I though perhaps the OP was thinking of an LCD with polar co-ordinates.

For something like a sonar scanner for boats.

Interesting technical challenge...

Actually, 3" round LCDs would be a great innovation.

Aircraft instruments are 3" round, and it is impossible to
find them to make compatible instruments that fit in those holes.
The ones that are available usually are square, and require the
panel be modified.

Hi,

I just purchased a Tek 2445A o'scope
for home hobby use and have two questions.

1) How do I activate the diagnostics? I'm use to
modern digital scopes at work where everything
is menu driven and pretty obvious.
<Snippety>

A minor rant. This, IMO, is an excellent reason NOT to have
everything 'menu driven and pretty obvious.' Such things don't help the
operator to gain a better understanding of O-scope operation and how
best to make measurements with it.

With that said: There exists a 'TekScopes' mailing list at Yahoo
Groups. You would do well to join in the fun.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TekScopes/?tab=s

Hope that helps. Enjoy your new toy. ;-)

I expect the aircraft market could bear the cost too.

Oh yeah, the aviation market is booming.

Not.

Glass breaks perfectly into circles. How do you think portholes are made?

What shape are the bits left over ?

That's important to LCD manufacture. See (a).
Still doesn't explain b)
There are lots of examples of circular glass around me, flashlight lens,
vanity mirror, telescope, old radio bezel, spirit level. Rectangular LCDs
are much more convenient and efficient to make and connect.
I know some guys on another newsgroup who might like a small circular LCD to
replace a 6E5 but I suspect it will take a few more years to become cost
effective.

It's fairly common to break the corners off a monochrome LCD to allow
it to fit within a circular or elliptical outline. Cheaper than a true
circular outline.

Apparently, nobody's paying attention to the little datum that they go
in square holes. It's not that hard to draw round things on a rectangular
screen, you know.

Cheers!
