Guy Macon, do you have anything to contribute?

Besides, "Please, please, puh-leeeeeeeze put %\~OT!@#$ in the
subject line, so I can filter out stuff that I can't otherwise
read the subject line of?"

Thanks,

I will take your reaction as confirmation that you intend to undermine
my effort to make this newsgroup more usable. Because I know that one
person undermining the effort is enough to make it not work, I will now
stop trying. You "win".

I am still curious about your motives, though. Did I do something to
offend you somewhere along the line? Is it just that you object to
the idea of making it easy for users to use sci.electronics.design to
talk about electronics? Do you have a problem with a group of people
discussing an issue and trying to come up with a mutually agreeable
solution? Or do you have some other motive that I have not identified?

I don't expect a straight answer to the above questions from you, but
feel free to surprise me.

Guy,
what is this effort of yours all about? I didn't read your OP about the
desired improvements or how you want to achieve that.
But now you have already given up just because Rich mistyped the header or
what? You know he has that good stuff, so he enjoys making some fun with us,
don't take it too seriously, it is the same when Thompson had Italian Wine
and descibes the sunset in Arizona. :-(
And he has x-posted it to a 101NGs.

Here is the basic idea:

There are users of sci.electronics.design who want to read only about
electronics.

There are users of sci.electronics.design who want to read and post
about a wide variety of other topics.

I proposed a method that would make the newsgroup very usable for
both groups of users.

Simply add the string "[OT]" to the subject line of posts that are
not about electronics. It only takes a few people doing this - the
rest will just reply as always and the "[OT]" will propagate.

Those who wish to read about Osama, Smoking bans, Bush/Kerry, Abortion,
Gun Control, etc etc. can then just read as usual.

Those who wish to read only about electronics can filter out all posts
with [OT] in the title.

Alas, a single person who decides to sabotage the scheme can make it
unworkable. All it takes to sabotage the scheme is to remove the
"[OT]" string or to replace it with some other string such as "OT:",
"{Off-Topic]" or "[MOLOnT]:" Once a single person decides to
sabotage the scheme, the scheme fails. It appears that Rich has
decided for some unknown reason to sabotage the scheme.

But now you have already given up just because Rich mistyped the
header or what?
Yes. If Rich or anyone else decides to sabotage the scheme, there
is no point in pursuing it. For it to work we need a few people
who are helping, no people who are sabotaging, and the vast majority
ignoring the whole thing and just replying as usual.

I quit. Rich "wins".

But hasn't it been always like that, all these posts should be marked [OT].
If they aren't they will not be in future because all these trolls do not
make the effort to search for the square brackets on the keyboard and write
bad headers anyway.
You will never have success, you must be intelligent to understand this
already after the first reply.
Maybe you would be better off with the "on-topic" posts being marked [E] or
something, because these persons seem to be more manageable and do not mind
to obey some reasonable rules.
But then the newbies would have to learn this, so you have to post a
reminder every week. Or maybe in your signature like this "Apostrophe
Police". BTW was that also you? We all learned to use the apostrophe
rightly, I'm still grateful as a non English brought-up.

Here is the basic idea:

There are users of sci.electronics.design who want to read only about

Though this group includes "design" in its name, in reality there is a
paucity of "design" topics seen here.

Most of what you might call on-topic are things like "I can't get my
stereo to work" or "Distortion from audio power amp", things that
belong in sci.electronics.basic because the posters haven't yet
reached the level of analyzing/solving on paper... they're hackers
with no actual training/knowledge in electronics.

There are users of sci.electronics.design who want to read and post
about a wide variety of other topics.
Yep, We DESIGNERS hang out here and like to use this as a chat room

I have no problem with your suggestion, I've been using "[OT]" since
you proposed it, although it does look as if there's a syntactical
problem... Agent removes the brackets.

Those who wish to read about Osama, Smoking bans, Bush/Kerry, Abortion,
Gun Control, etc etc. can then just read as usual.
Of course WE will.

Those who wish to read only about electronics can filter out all posts
with [OT] in the title.
Of course YOU can. Of course you may have a problem actually finding
any electronics on this group.

Alas, a single person who decides to sabotage the scheme can make it
unworkable. All it takes to sabotage the scheme is to remove the
"[OT]" string or to replace it with some other string such as "OT:",

But you are still reading a thread for which you added [OT] to
the topic. Hmm.

Yesterday you asked me to add [OT] which I did. I have no problem
with adding [OT] and I will try to remember it when the situation
calls for, but I may make a mistake ;)

Keep up the good work!

You poor twit... from your "Distortion from audio power amp" post it's
clear you can't even CALCULATE the output bias point or the quiescent
current. I'm not sure you can even manage Ohm's Law.

My point is VERY few of the posts have anything to do with DESIGN.

My uP POST inquired as to WHERE was the best place to start acquiring
uP skills. I didn't fire one up without even a clue as to how to
understand what my meter was telling me.

I'll be programming a uP way before Pinnell will be able to design a
