I spend as much time in "The real world" as my health and disabilities
allow. (Anywhere from 15 to 30 hours a week.)

I spend most of my time collecting and repairing computer equipment
that I give away, for free, to deserving people. I do not chase every
dollar, like you. I have over 40 years experience in designing, building
and repairing electronics. Some that you will never see, unless you go
into space. I have worked in Broadcast, CATV, two way radio, Commercial
sound and high end telemetry. I troubleshot hundreds of MC68340 based
embedded controllers without any of the toys you push. A Tektronics
2465B 4 Ch scope and knowledge of the chipsets used allowed me to find
the problems in minutes. I have repaired over 1000 early COmmodore,
Tandy, Apple and other 8 bit computers over the years without needing a
logic analyzer. In fact, most of the early ones were repaired with a
$10 logic probe, and a 500 KHz single channel triggered scope. I dumped
about 100 intact Bally and other video game cards in the trash about ten
years ago. Some bozo was offering me about 15 cents per board. I
figured that if that was all he was willing to pay, they weren't worth
storing any longer. Hell, I was paying more than that per month to
warehouse them.

Real cute. I was awarded the M.O.S. of Broadcast Engineer as a
civilian acquired skill, which meant that i didn't have to go to a three
year electronics school at Ft. Monmoth, NJ. I had never worked at a
station, yet I had the highest score on record for that MOS at Ft.
Knox. I recieved a letter of commendation for my work at Ft. Greely,
from the USARAL commanding general of the three Army bases in Alaska at
the time. I was also promoted to E4 at 18 months time in service.

I received my honorable discharge from the US military, and owned my
own business for over a decade. Later I built communications equipment
for NASA, NOAA, the European Space Agency. What have you done, other
than do your best to be a pain to everyone one the sci.electronics
newsgroups? My disabilities are physical. I have had health issues all
my life, but until a few years ago I got up and worked hard, every day.

Now, I can barely walk, and my Diabetes and high blood pressure is
slowly taking my eyesight. I have severe swellings in my legs most days,
and I walk with a cane, after falling too many times. I have nerve
damage in my hands, and Carpal tunnel problems where I loose all feeling
in my hands. At my last job I hand soldered 288 pin ICs under a stereo
microscope. These were for DSP based dual divesrity telemetry recieveing
systems in the $80,000 range.

Junk? Hell, I have well over 2000 square feet of floor space filled
to the rafters with surplus electronics, but I don't spam people to get
rid of it. It is what is left of a 40 year collection.

I made a very difficult decision a few days ago that it is time to
start thinning everything out that I don't need, before it all ends up
at the landfill. Some is being given away, some sold, some scrapped,
and the rest is going to be donated to a local program where they use
scrap circuit boards to teach people to solder so they can try to get
assembly jobs at a local defense plant. I could probably sell lots of
junk on ebay but I don't even have, or want an account.

I understand your self serving attempts at analogies, very well. I
also understand sociopaths who feel that anything they do is ok, as long
as they get away with it. I had one for a neighbor who stole every cent
his mother had, then managed to sell her house out from under her.

I argue much better, face to face. Like the kid who tried to take
away my cane to impress his little punk friends. Before he knew what
was happening, I had his arm twisted behind his back, politely asking
him to apologize, so I could let him go before his arm went completely
numb. It was amazing. From then on, he was very polite, would open
doors and had manners when he spoke to me. He even apologized again, a
few months later.
