You're only too far north if they eat haggis. Except for Yorkshire of
course.

Anybody got any positive/negative opinions of these towns?
I only knew Peterborough up to 12 years ago, when my friend there moved
away. It was very, very dull, the small ancient centre gutted for cloned
shops and the area overwhelmed by xeroxed housing estates designed
entirely (though badly) around motorised commuting.

There's a good steam railway if you are into that sort of thing, and a
pub that had been up for sale so long that they renamed it the Jackson
Stops- the name on the estate agent's sign.

Arizona doesn't observe DST for a very simple reason... the drive-in
movie theater lobby argued that it would hurt their business on school
nights... because they couldn't start the show until 9PM.

I AM NOT pulling your leg ;-)
Makes perfect sense to me. I love DST, since it gives another hour of sun
in the evening in summer and gives it back in the morning in the winter.
It's enough of a PITA to have sunlight at 4:00AM, we don't need it at
3:00AM. Likewise it's rather nice to at least go to work this time of
year in the light. It's dark by the time I leave. I'd vote for double
DST. Perhaps another half-hour on both ends.

According to L Ron Hubbard, scientology is science, there is nothing
religious about it.

Of course that was his statement before he discovered the tremendous tax
advantages of being a religion..

After that transition was announced, he said to the newly faithful not to be
concerned about the transition, it was simply a matter for tax accountants
and attourneys.

Now, if you want to get really mad, look up the story, broken by the New
York Times, about the secret agreement between the IRS, and scientology, and
watch the identities of the leaders of scientology, and the IRS over the
years.

Its hard to argue with the jealous. Yeah, we go to Europe for vacations.
Because it is quaint. Rustic perhaps. Old World. But the US is, by a huge
margin, the best country in the world. As the gap widens, the outsiders
and like-thinkers whine more? Why? Simply because they BELIEVE they are
entitled to some of the wealth created by us. The reason we are so great
is because we have a distinct lean toward the right.....

Here you go, you're a good example of what the majority of the US thinks.
And than you wonder "Why do they hate us so much over there in Europe?

By the way, the best place to live in the world is Norway. And US is not
even
second or third.

Quote:
For the fourth year in a row,
the United Nations has ranked Norway as having the highest standard of
living in the
world. Sweden, Australia and Canada are next in line, while the United
States is further
down the scale.
End Quote.

The United States landed in eighth place on the list. So much for your "By
a wide margin".
Although I'd give it a much worse rating, below 15. There are many
countries I'd pick
rather than the US, countries with higher levels of Democracy with people
who are a lot
less arogant, are better educated overall and are a lot slimmer. Who wants
a 150Kg+
girlfriend?

I've been to the countries mentioned here so I know what I'm talking
about.
I bet you've never been outside the US, have you? So what is your
position based
upon, government propaganda? Did your mama tell you US was the best place
to live
and you were gonna kick those EU asses?

You really aren't trying to tell me that UN stuff is believealbe? The same

Because I asked you. And, even if you blame us for every death from

There has been no liberation of Iraq- people are afraid to leave their
homes in many parts of the country, it is in a state of total chaos-
this is not liberation.

it is still but a tiny fraction of what Saddam killed.

Isn't that just like a moron to fall back on statistics like that. Well
that "tiny fraction" is pushing the better part of a million people.

Perhaps Brian can give us some numbers. That will force him to
do some research. It also depends on how you count. The war between
Iraq and Iran (1980-1988) has killed quite a few. Not that those
numbers have upset the western world at that time.. we couldn't
have cared less. Many died as a result of the trade embargo's after
the 1st Gulf War, lack of simple medicines etc, who's blame is that?
Nobody wanted to believe that Saddam didn't have the impressive
amount of WMD's that we thought he had, and instead of finally
accepting that fact, the US decided to turn the place into an
100 times greater hell. Just at the time that weapon inspectors
were getting more realistic view on the amount of weapons. A bloody
shame it is. Okay, the US can repair the material damage, no
doubt. But that doesn't make the mistake undone. It could repair
some of its international reputation by sending their war criminals
to the International Court of Justice, Bush on the top of the list.

BTW, I've killfiled Brian a while ago. I have no interest in his
postings. Freedom of speech is great, but I don't need to listen
