Sure it does, just as long as it doesn't fall into the realm of
libel/slander.

And the courts have generally applied rather tight rules as to what
actually constitutes such infractions.

Fairbanks AK to Cincinnati and back, and that was in the '70s. if you

You've gone off of your own topic. The discussion was

saying now concerns good/bad manners.

Way off base on the FREE SPEECH issue. That gives us
the right to have an opinion and to vocalize it without
worry of persecution as long as we don't intend to act
on it in a way that would violate any other people rights

Unfortunately I am finding way too much of that in Nags lately. If you have
an opinion that differs from someone else's than they re: with nothing but
hate and discontent. I have unsubscribed from many Nags this week because of
this. And, of course, none of them were political NGs.

Why are these people posting out of the political groups? That is where this
shit belongs.

I don't even bother replying to posts unrelated to the NG topic but for this
one I made an exception and I am not going to re: any of them again.

It seems to me that most of today's liberals, if they were alive during
WW2, would not support Roosevelt and Eisenhower for going after Hitler.
No change there, then. What you call 'liberals' in Britain did not
support war with Hitler until late in the summer of 1939. It took Pearl
Harbor for US public opinion to swing from 'keep out of European
trouble' to supporting Roosevelt and hence Churchill.

It seems that all that is important now is protecting everybody's rights
regardless of the consequences. Hussein killed his own. He should now
suffer the consequences not be given some sort of immunity because the
left is empathetic.
Yes, there IS too much excusing around.
There are too many people that want us to pull out of Iraq but history
has taught us that we can't do that: On Armistice Day -- 11 Nov 1918 --
when the surrender was signed for WW1 we pulled out of Germany without
lending them a hand in the rebuilding. That is ONE of the reasons that
WW2 started. They still felt the animosity for us not helping them. When
WW2 ended we did the opposite: We help those countries that were in the
Axis to rebuild. That is why we HAVE to stay in Iraq until that country
is stable enough to work on its own. Could you imagine the consequences
if we left that country now in a state of shambles? Sometimes thinking
with our hearts is not the right way to do things and we have to put our
emotions aside and do what is necessary. Sometimes doing what is
necessary is not what we want to do but what we have to do.
Quite right, although one of your compatriots a few days ago recommended
just that - flatten the country and leave it to its own salvation.

Perfect example of someone who just wants to hear his/her own voice or see
his/her words spread on the net. Too many people thinking that way because
they don't know history. It's a too oft used cliche but it will ring true
for eternity: "Those who haven't learned from history will be forced to
repeat it."

Cheers to you from the other side of the pond.

Your troops, not my troops, that is the issue at hand. If you had put:

post (or in the subject) I wouldn't have minded. It was the assumption that
it applies to EVERYONE here that is the problem.

Fine, let me restate the question in a way that you can't weasel out
of
it as easily:
Pointing out an issue is moot or that the question is nonsensical is not
weaseling. If you had asked a rationale question, it could be answered.

do Saddam's former soldiers deserve the same benefits as US soldiers?
Of course not. The pay and benefits to US soldiers are codified in US laws,
so Iraqi soldiers would not get them. Instead they should receive the pay
and benefits allocated to them under Iraqi law. All POWs regardless of
nationality should receive at a minimum the treatment required by the Geneva
convention. Something the former regime in Iraq never did. It should also
be noted that the US military often takes better care of enemy POWs than the
enemy forces do.

If you are really asking about getting free donated transportation to their
homes from their duty stations organized my their countrymen, the answer is
of course. The Iraqis are free to organize it for thier troops. More over,
during the Hajj, providing hospitality and shelter to pilgrims and travelers
is a duty of an observant Muslim.

After all, they were just following orders to?
Your inappropriate use of the Nuremburg defense is noted but irrelevant.
Its also specifically disallowed by the various international courts and the
UCMJ for certain kinds of crimes. The regime change in Iraq will also allow
a final answer as to the whereabouts of LCDR Speicher and the punishment of
those who raped the US female POWs from Desert Storm.
