put finger to keyboard and composed:
for a new lamp, you need to follow a certain procedure.
The following procedure apppears to apply to most models:
After replacing lamp, enter IN-START mode.
Select "LAMP replace" and enter that mode using volume (+) key.
To reset the lamp use time, press the "OK" key.
Otherwise, you may see "Total time reset?", in which case you respond
with "Yes" using the volume (+) key. Then press "OK".
For other models, the instruction is to "turn off by IN-STOP key in
ADJ remocon".

The set keeps a record of lamp usage. To reset the hours count to zeroProblem solved, fortunately it was just some bad solder on one of those
connector sockets.
Now what was that about a lamp timer? I've never worked on a DLP set before
so I'm not familiar with it.
