My problem is not just with Yanks, but with the way a lot of people
pronounce the work "ratio", i.e. when you might be comparing two
resistors or voltage drops, etc..
It seems to me that a lot of people pronounce "ratio" as "rayshow" or
some such!!

When I was teaching Electronics, back in the 80's and 90's, I'd
deliberately pronounce the word "ratio" as "ray-ci-o". My students
soon asked what I was on about, so I told them ... so they knew, each
time I pronounced a word "ray-ci-o", they KNEW I meant "ratio"!!
