Anyone else noticed on U-Tube electronic videos that virtually every
Yank can't pronounce the simple
word "SOLDER" correctly?

Yanks always say "SODDER"........which sounds completely ridiculous
!!!!!!!

It sounds like they are committing sodomy with a soldering iron.

For all you Seppos who are still trying to defend your BAD EDUCATION
with respect
to pronouncing "SOLDER"..
....try saying BOLDER; COLDER, FOLDER and then explain why you have
to completely
fuck it up when you say "SOLDER".

They have tooters instead of tutors.

Mobile is another word. The say mobil.
And some pronounce turbine as turbin, tube as toob, etc.

and missals.

And nooclear.

According to Homer J Simpson it's Nookuler

True, I've always been lousy at those.

My problem is not just with Yanks, but with the way a lot of people
pronounce the work "ratio", i.e. when you might be comparing two resistors
or voltage drops, etc..

It seems to me that a lot of people pronounce "ratio" as "rayshow" or some
such!!

Better than rattyo I spose.

When I was teaching Electronics, back in the 80's and 90's, I'd
deliberately pronounce the word "ratio" as "ray-ci-o". My students soon
asked what I was on about, so I told them ... so they knew, each time I
pronounced a word "ray-ci-o", they KNEW I meant "ratio"!!

My little bug-bear!!

Bet they still make snide remarks about you doing that now.

Quite possible ... and I do know I had an impact!!

In 2000, after I had finished teaching TaFE, I went to Sydney for a
couple of days to attend some of the Olympics and, as I was wandering
through the Sydney Airport, a guy came up to me and identified himself
as a former pupil and thanked me for my efforts .... so I had an effect
on at least one person.

Or he was just having a go at me!! ;-P
