I have learned my lesson well about not watching where I clicked.
It's bad to know that the planet is stull full of mindless
retards who don't have the basic skills required to configure
a PC and a web browser so it doesn't shit itself and die
every time it gets an unexpected pop-up ad.

"Oooooh! Oooooh, I can't click on that, it might bite me!"

Another downside with TinyURL etc is that it only lasts for a
relatively short time and cant be used from groups.google etc.

Hmm, didn't know that. What kinda timeframe?
Havent timed it myself, but when groups.google runs for decades now...

I was under the obviously misguided impression that they lasted
forever, what with the way the urls keep incrementing 'n'all.
With 4 letters, not even possible.

Mindless paranoia.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

It's good to know there are people around who will click on anything :)

I have learned my lesson well about not watching where I clicked.
My computer picked up a bad internet pox and is now on regular
treatments of spybot, ad-aware and CWShredder. :)
Its completely trivial to have a url which looks innocuous and which isnt.

Quoting from: http://tinyurl.com
"By entering in a URL in the text field below, we will create a
tiny URL that will not break in email postings and never expires."
It may not expire, but the operation doing it may expire.

It's an easy way to keep the spambots from
harvesting my Paypal email addresses.
Stops em dead! So I hope the "never expires" is correct.
Wouldnt really matter that much even if it
does expire. Just move on to a new one.

The concept certainly wont expire.

In news: -K2dnZhiKYGHDECiRVn-tA@inspired.net.au, someone let
GB <g.b@sonicresearch.mailme.org> loose on on a computer... and the
unfortunate result was:

sure Rod. I like tinyurl's anyway.

I just wonder when we get the pop up message asking us to register and
pay, or am I being a cynic? :)

Are you talking about hooking a keyboard to the Golden Gaskey unit or
the JAycar unit? We have a Golden Gasket one we got from Ebay and was
hoping to run a test to see how far we could reliably see it so your
comments are valuable either way. I would be happy to play with a
jaycar one if I can talk to it via an rs232 port or simalar..

using the XT keyboard, you hit ESC and start typing the message, the
function keys are your display transition effects and when used with crtl do
other effects.

i never hooked mine up to a com port yet - there is a piece of software
called messagepro which interfaces with these things using the com port - i
have just never had a female to female com port lead

the golden castket unit.

It accepts both the XT keyboard and a com link rs232.

the jaycar jobs are just scrolling text / time. no transitions and only
usable with the built in front mounted keypad.

if you have an old 101 key keyboard look underneth it for an at/xt or a/x
switch, set it to x or xt and plug it in. then u just press the esc key and
start playing, you have to set a message block (F1 i think) and then start
typeing your message using transitions if you want (F2 ..........f10 also
use the SHIFT key eg SHIFT F3) then press ESC Twice and the text should
start doing stuff, u have wipes, fades, flash WIDE , sliding door open/close
scroll up/down and a few others.
its a bit touchy about where you have capslock cause XT standard never kept
track of the lock setting at the keyboard, and will lie to you re: LED
status it forgets.

Hi all.

I am after one of those running LED signs. Idealy I would like to be
able to hook it up to a serial port so I can write some software to
change what is displayed on the fly.

Has anyone got an old one? Please contact me directly.

Regards, Peter
check out : http://www.starchild.com.au Maybe this will be what you are
after. I have one on my car for business. Works well.
