wtb: books,manuals etc on older microprocessor 6502,z80 etc

I've got a small collection of them myself.
I have a 64k chook-in-a-book machine with drive of course.
a 128k premium machine (Colour CGA)
and a couple others with those HUGE boxs that sit under the monitor to hold
the floppy drives.
several CP/M manuals, Mathew Star's BASIC manual. I've even got some old
floppy disk for them too.
I have an experimentors board that has been build up to make an old BeeModem
into an auto modem. Self answering, no need to use the switches. I use to
run a 300baud bbs on my old microbee.
I've got a BeeTalker which no one but me could ever understand.
I have a complete set of the Online Mag for the microbee. I really hate
what they did at the end. Filled the mag with adds (no articals) and
charged it against our subscription. How RUDE.
The only think I am short of is monitors for them. CGA and compesite
monitors are a little hard to come by these days.
Although I have considered feeding the Microbee into the Video In port of my
capture card on the IBM to see the picture :)

I even wrote a few games way back then. One of them was even converted by
someone else.

Have you seen the microbee simulator? I'll look for the link if your
interested.

Yes Enjoy Dialup I also still have sentimental feelings about
Microbees too. In fact I have about 30 Microbees and related
manuals, documentation etc, about 25 green and/or orange
monitors and 1/2 dozens dot matrix and daisy wheels printers in
my shed that I just don't have the heart to throw out or give
away...yet. Doubtless the day after I throw them out they will
become valuable collectables.

I didn't think there was any difference in code between the 8088 and
8086? Both were functionally identical except that the 8086 accessed
through a 16bit bus. The 8088 came out after the 8086 to allow the use
of cheaper 8 bit interface components.

That is correct. IBM told MS that the chip was too expensive to build for.
thus the 8088. Only intel would make a newer chip deliberatly slower than
the original it was based on. ie Celeron!!
Then there were the other cleaver choices made by IBM. Like: no one will
ever need more than 1meg of ram, so lets put all the roms in the upper
memory address space.
Then MS got in ont he act with 33meg partition limits.
AT and XT keyboards. WHY change the bloody standard when XT could have extra
keys anyway! (don't get me started on multimedia keyboards)
Followed by Lotus and Intel comming up with the EMS memory standard to
bypass the stupid 1meg barrior. What a dog of a system that was!
I payed a fortune for a bloody 286 that could go into protected more buy not
come out again, thanks to Intel's stupid mistake. Only to buy a 386 shortly
after to resolve the problem.
Then M$ came up with XMS which was fine, except we had to have both XMS and
EMS now to support all the software which was not split between the two
standards.
It took another 5 versions of windows before we had a true flat memory model
that could seamlesly support all the standards. 3.1, 95, 98,ME,NT, with
2000 being the first to acturly run everything without having the stuff
around with blasted config files.
Then there was that briliently designed GUI with a true multitasking kernal
OS/2 which M$ refused to develop. It took M$ 5 years to catch up with the
elegance and stability of OS/2.
Dont even get me started on Plug'n'Pray ISA cards. Who's stupid idea was
that! Did any card acturly P'n'P without having to be manualy configured in
the cmos?
And what is it with IRQ's! The ISA buss was ment to support sharing IRQs
but had a bug. So the PCI buss was designed to share them and still we cant
share them without risking lockups!
Any why the hell did any card plugged into slot 8 of an XT always
malfuntion. Why have the slot if it wont work.
While I'm bitching about that, why did they link the IRQ of the AGP and
first PCI slots together. What was the point of that stupidity?

You know the more i think about it the more i realise that IBM, Intel, and
M$ can not make an intelegent choice to save their lifes!

hmmm, i think i just vented over 15 years of fustration, having to support
shoddy products!

agreed. it was wonderfull to work with. I use to run a BBS in an OS/2 dos
box and while developing programs in another. if i crashed the program I
was writing, i could close the box, instead of having to reboot the
computer. I can't do that with XP. Although I can if i use VirtualPC under
XP. but thats because it makes a true simulated hardware enviroment.
