After seeing only 27 posts in this VHDL group I decided to have a look at
"comp.lang.verilog" which, at this moment, has over 1200 posts. Much of
my graduate work and all of my early career focused on digital logic ASIC
design using VHDL exclusively, and I have never bothered to look at
verilog, so I am somewhat blind to what might be the source of this
difference in culture and social activity. Any theories?

I think this is more a function of your server than the groups. I find both
groups are pretty dead.

Where did everyone migrated to? I find it sad that such a
legendary group has lost its shine

I think this is more a function of your server than the groups. I find both
groups are pretty dead. I think you just joined both groups and are seeing
an artifact of the retention policy of your news provider.

From the 1st of this year I see maybe 50 posts in the VHDL group and
roughly 60 posts in the Verilog group. Not so big a difference.

Yeah, I didn't really investigate beyond the header count. Oops. Thanks
for the illumination :)

Today there is more activity in the more specialized Gitter rooms. For example

https://gitter.im/VUnit/vunit for VUnit and https://gitter.im/ghdl1/Lobby for GHDL.

There is also a VHDL room: https://gitter.im/vhdl/General

Then you have vendor forums like https://forums.xilinx.com and Stackoverflow https://stackexchange.com/filters/200079/vhdl?sort=newest

Stackoverflow is quite active and has skilled people providing answers. Very many "please solve my homework" type of questions though.

And comp.lang.vhdl has Rick...

Βούλωσε το Ρικ, επιτέλους!
