It would be simple if my name was Robert Stroud....
Sorry Bob,
I have my domains setup on US servers, as most of my sales are there,
and it means fast local access.

However......
Our server has had a hard drive crash, and the backup didn't work.

Our web hosts have a company:
http://www.data-recovery-software.com/
working on data recovery on the buggered drive, and say they should be
able to recover all of the data.
we will see. :)

If it takes too long, we may open another account on another server, so
that we can do our own data restore, shift DNS the pointers, and get on
with it. What a mess, but I have had worse days. :)

Re the Robert Stroud thing, all I need is the data you want posted, and
I'll set it all up.

However.......
my dontronics.com site and email doesn't work, so I'll contact you when
all is well, and we can go ahead.

Whaaaaaat. A (business critical?) server on the Internet that is not
mirrored(Raided)????

Didn't think such a beast existed anymore......

But, unfortunately, I expect they are all too common.

Cheers,

It was raided Mark, it simply didn't work. I think the raid hardware may
have failed.
Mind you, it is hard to get good feedback when they are still working on
it.

I have got mailwasher on the comp and fortunately I have been able to
delete and bounce them - but they still keep coming. Whoever is
sending them must be a bloody good spammer as unlike most spams - very
few of these come up as spams on mailwashers databases.

Im quite pissed off at bigpond too for doing nothing to stop them
coming.
As far as vandal/virus emails are concerned it is an offence to transmit
such traffic to the networks. Therefore it should be mandatory for all
ISP's to scan for viruses at the SMTP server, before anything gets out.
Trying to scan/filter/block such traffic at the destination end is like
shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. However, the
carriers still profit from this illegal traffic....

There are products such as http://www.newnet.co.uk/av/smtpAV.php which
will do the job and I think we should start pressuring legislators,
ISP's and anybody who might listen to start to take some real action to
prevent the vandal stuff at the source and not the destination.

I know there are powerful vested interests out there who would oppose
anything which would limit the profit to be made from transmitting
vandal traffic but if it is harmful and illegal then surely somebody has
the balls to do something.

Nope.

No thanks, not interested in paying for what
that would cost when they could end up with
their arse in a sling if they stuffed it up.

And it wouldnt have any effect what so ever on the spammers anyway.

Nope, nothing like.

It aint illegal and they dont profit from it either.

Mindless conspiracy theory.

Taint gotta damned thing to do with balls.

Sorry Rod, but you are wrong again.

Since most internet traffic is generated in the US it seems logical that
they would be the first to instigate some action against spammers in
general, and so they have the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act
http://www.panix.com/~eck/computer-fraud-act.html which, according to
well known spam fighting lawyer Pete Wellborn, makes it illegal to send
spam emails. See last para here
http://www.softcom.net/webnews/wed/ab/Uus-spam.RUCo_DST.html

As an indication of just what the courts in the US think of the
"legality" of sending spam emails read this
http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,110627,00.asp

As a result of cases such as this ISP's are starting to become concerned
about the possibility of legal action against them for being
passive/complicit in allowing their gateways to be used for sending spam.

It is obvious that Pete Wellborn and Earthlink have the "balls" to take
on the spammers in the US but it really requires similar action in all
countries. Hopefully a few more wins like the above will put more
pressure on the ISP's to do something to prevent spam and other vandal
emails getting out.

Nope. List the law that makes it illegal. You cant. It doesnt exist.

Wrong again as far as the VANDAL/VIRUS
emails being discussed are concerned.

Got sweet fuck all to do with that
stupid claim you made about illegality.

and so they have the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act

Even someone as stupid as you should be able to grasp that US
legislation doesnt apply to emails that dont originate in the US.

which, according to well known spam fighting lawyer
Pete Wellborn, makes it illegal to send spam emails.
Spam wasnt even being discussed, VANDAL/VIRUS EMAILS were.

And even someone as stupid as you should be able to read
that particular legislation and see that it aint talking about spam
at all, and its VERY specific about what computers are covered
by the legislation even in the US. Its NOTHING like a blanket
coverage of all PCs or anything even remotely like that.

See last para here
http://www.softcom.net/webnews/wed/ab/Uus-spam.RUCo_DST.html
Completely useless. No legislation says anything like that and
even someone as stupid as you should be able to grasp that US
legislation doesnt apply to emails that dont originate in the US.

Just another terminal fuckwit lawyer attempting to spruik
his services and you stupid enough to buy his terminal
bullshit. That legislation does nothing of the sort.

Taint gunna happen, you watch. The US legal system has
been completely off the rails for CENTURYS now and no
one else has ever been stupid enough to go that route.

Hopefully a few more wins like the above will put
more pressure on the ISP's to do something to
prevent spam and other vandal emails getting out.
In your pathetic little drug crazed fantasyland.
