Dear all,

After doing a fresh install of IC 6.1.0 on a new workstation for
test and migration of our environment, I wanted to set up the
streams and projects as usual, but I was quite puzzled by the
fact that I couldn't find the Stream Manager !
Does anybody know what happend to the Stream Manager ?
It seems to be really missing from IC 6.1.0 - no documentation
about it nor any hint why its missing or how it got replaced.

Any hint would be very appreciated,

just another question in this context :

is there a way to convert OA Libraries back to the old format ?

Regards,

Stefan

Converting back is possible, take look at the OpenAccess to CDB
translator User Guide:

The stream manager was end of lifed. Virtually nobody used it.

If the stream manager was ended, is it up to the user to write his own
inorder to stream in/out data?

The stream manager is nothing to do with writing stream (aka GDSII) files. The
stream manager was a tool for setting up the search path to the multiple Cadence
(and third-party) software trees (known as release "STREAM"s).

The capability to File->Export->Stream and File->Import->Stream is alive and
well.

Andrew.

I never used the Stream Manager, so I don't exactly know it's capabilities.
But to satisfy your curiosity we use the modules package and I knew a big IDM
which is using it too.

I use something I developed myself over many years which is very easy to
maintain the data for (essentially I just have to install a new release in a
consistent location, usually in an automount map, and it becomes available
without having to configure anything in the login system).

However, I agree with Bernd that modules is a pretty widely used solution for
this at a number of our customers. Many also have their own home-grown
solutions.

Andrew.

Then, Martin and I are virtually nobody :)

Out of curiosity, I'd like to ask what do people use. The capability to setup tools on-the-fly was

Stream manager allowed to do it very easily since the tools came with their configuration. And best,
it could be used for third-party tools as well. Though it certainly had limitations, it was an easy
and working solution.

Of course, the same can be obtained with a limited amount of work using homemade shell scripts. Is
this what people do ?

R.I.P. Stream Manager :)
