Granting what the US Republican Party tries to do to voter rights
and voter rolls, they certainly aren\'t remotely interested in
democracy.
The US Democrat Party is a bit better, so promoting them is a step
to getting the US closer to actual democracy.
Getting it to adopt proportional representation with multi-member
constituencies, which is the norm over most of Europe, would get
the US even closer to genuinely representative democracy.
It leads to multi-party coalition governments, which means that
the full diversity of public opinion gets represented in the
legislature, rather than the cut-down range that gets attention in
two-party states like the US, the UK and Australia. Australia
does have proportional representation in it\'s upper house - our
Senate - and the saner minor parties and the independents do
help, but they can\'t initiate legislation, even if they can block
some partisan idiocies.
