Then again, that might have been an even older chip :p

The person is asking about a SPECIFIC type of CPU.

How do you know what reason that the original poster requires the CPU ? ,
unless you know , you can't comment.

There are quite a few reasons why somebody would need that type of CPU .

You are just another computer illiterate dead shit that knows fuck all
about
everything.

I have a 233MMX you can have for the price of a nice bottle of red +
postage. I also have an AMD K6-450 if you have a motherboard that
supports
them.

Being a non-wine consumer, exactly how much would a nice bottle of red +
postage come to?????

The board I need this for will only support up to 266MHz hence the need
for 233 or 266 CPU..

Thanks
Exactly what motherboard brand and model is it?
The 266MHz max support claim is typical of early boards that came out before
the larger AMD CPU's were introduced. Sounds like you have either a socket 7
or super socket 7 board. In the case of the former the best you could hope
to populate it with is an AMD K6 2-500 running it at non standard settings.
If you're lucky you should be able to set fsb on such a board to 83MHz and
multiplier to 6x for around 498MHz. Actually your board only needs the 2x
multiplier setting as with a K6 CPU it will interpret 2x as 6x. The Super
socket 7 board will enable you to run up to a K6 2-550 and has proper 100MHz
fsb support so such a chip would run at 100x5.5 or 6x100 for 600MHz
overclocked. A better option still is to find the very rare K6 3-450 CPU
which outperforms anything else you could put on that board. Forget the
Intel 233 CPU as the other CPU's mentioned outperform it.

I'm looking for a Pentium-MMX 233 or 266MHz CPU.
I assume you are after a P2 ? as the original Pentium mxx stoped at
233

do you want to be clearer?

dude, take a chill pill.... I don't know what pissed you off so much but I
think you have serious demons you need to control.... Dalien X didn't
ask
why he wanted the CPU...
The point being is that the original poster wanted an older CPU for perhaps
a specific reason , but because it isn't the latest cutting edge 3.0 Ghz CPU
or what ever , some deadshit goes to mouth off about it and tries to have a
good laugh at the expense of the original poster.

I think perhaps you may need to take a good hard look at yourself and
decide
whether it is actually you who is the illiterate one.
The only illiterate deadshits are the ones that mouth off about older
computer hardware , they are the same ones that couldn't drive a computer
without a mouse pointer.

If anyone has one (working of course) please let me know along with
cost (bearing in mind the age of these things!) and estimated postage
cost to Cessnock NSW 2325.

I can pay by direct deposit to a nominated account or via money order
if preferred.

Spares for the space shuttle hey :)

the original shuttles were built with on board Intel 486
computers, and they needed replacements for them.
The original shuttles were built in 1979 etc, the 486 was not even invented
then.

233 was the highest clock rate produced in the MMX CPU.

A 266 is a Pentium II or Celeron.

Wanna try again??

The Pentium 266MMX was indeed (and still is!) being produced.
See:

They are still being used in cash registers etc as they are now perfect for
that role.

In the consumer market the 233 was the highest clock speed available. If
you look at the documentation you'll see that the 266 uses a different
socket than the Socket7 that motherboards of that era used.

No, thats incorrect.
Note that there are 2 types available.
One is socket 7, one isnt :)
The 296-PPGA package = Socket 7
From the table on the above linked website, you will see that there is indeed
a socket 7 version of the 266MHX Pentium MMX processor.
(See part number FV80503CSM66266.)
Whilst it is a low power version, you will find that most Intel TX chipset
motherboards that were produced could all go that low with their VCC setting.
(Certainly all the Gigabyte boards that I used to use with the 266's could).
I have used 266's for many years now, they are fast and very cool running, to
the point that in alot of applications, you can use them with minimal or no
heatsinking at all.
As for not being available to the consumer........I used to get them for my
customers without problems as an OEM unit.
I sold many Pentium 266MMX based computers when they were all the rage.

What kind of cash register? a M$ one?
A cash register should NOT require a pentium CPU

I've got a 233mmx in a drawer at work.

You're welcome to it.

Email me your address and I'll post it down (from Bris) on Monday.

Martin,

didn't hear from you, so offer withdrawn.
CPU has been posted to NZ (new owner said it was needed to run their
