Voltage regulator ID

Hi,

I need a bit of help with the identification of the following voltage
regulator.

It's on the circuit board of a Rainmatic 3000 irrigation controller -
which I don't have schematic for.

From screen printing on the circuit board and checking with my DMM, I
have the following:

Package type looks like a TO-252 or similar
(approx 6mm 0.25in square)

(In fixed pitch font - top view)

-------
| | ---- Gnd
| 0 | ---- In (also connected to die/heatsink)
| | ---- Out
-------

Most of the markings on the front are illegible, can see 31 somewhere.

I've tried looking at the LM117/317 but the pinouts are wrong.

Voltage in is 6 volts - Vout is current 0v (hence why I need to fix
this !).

Can anyone shed any more light on this part please.

Regards

David M

Does it look like this?

If so, then it could be one of Sanken's SIxxxx series of 3-terminal
regulators, eg SI-3062V.

See http://www.allegromicro.com/skncatlg/regulator/regulator.pdf

If you can't find the SI-3062, then get an SI-3052, lift the ground
pin, and boost it with resistors in the same way as for an adjustable
regulator.

No, this package is too big. The one I've got is only 6mm (0.25in)
square with a very small tab (heatsink) at the top which is soldered
to a copper pad on the board. The tab is connected to the centre
(input) pin.

I might just try to replace it with a 7805, I've got the room on the
PCB to change the mounting.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Sorry, I was too concerned with matching the pinout to notice the size
difference.

You should be able to find a 7806 without too much trouble.
