Use any search engine other than Google till they stop polluting USENET
with porn and junk commercial SPAM

If you have broadband, your ISP may have a NNTP news server included in
your account: http://www.usenettools.net/ISP.htm

No, it's too recent.

The point is the original poster posted in the wrong place. How in
the world does "electronic components" translate to fixing an old
shortwave radio?

A repair newsgroup might be relevant, it's not as if that's too
far from here.

rec.radio.shortwave might be relevant, but then that newsgroup is mostly
drivel as the off-topic junk from the "regulars" has taken over, complete
with google-centric idiots trying to take charge.

Of course, a mark of a google-centric is to use a google link to point
to a newsgroup or specific post, which only reinforces googles power,
including the power to ruin Usenet.

Check the power supply decoupling capacitors. These can generally be
replced with accurate substitutes without affecting any other critical
circuitry.
