Hi Folks,
I have a bunch of RCA transistors coded 18397 in a TO3 housing.
Can anybody give me an idea of the properties of this item?
Thanks,
Marco

Assume they're the same as a 2N3055. You didn't say if they are NPN or
PNP. Check that first.

High Watson,
What make you think it's a 2N3055?
To know if it's a NPN or PNP?
I rather like to see a data sheet of this component.
I have about 3500 pieces of this and like to know how far I can go in using
them in Power Amplifiers and PSU's.
Thank you any way for your reaction.
Marco

Generally, transistor in the TO-3 package are rated at 150 watts. The
2N3055 is conservatively rated at 115W, which is mediocre but still a
lotta power. So if you have so many power transistors, you can parallel
them for as much power as you need. ;-)

The breakdown voltage would be the next thing to find out. THey might
be horizontal output transistors from TVs, which are good for several
hundred volts. But the one thing that may come back to haunt you is the
SOA, safe operating area. You could easily blow out the transistor if
you exceed the SOA.

But then that's no problem, just use good quality sockets and keep a
handful of the transistors on hand!

BTW, I've got a couple hundred TO-3 sockets, if anyone is interested..

BTW, if you can't find out anything, you can sell them on Ebay, and if
you get 29 cents apiece, you'll make a thousand dollars. ;-)

Hi Watson,
As I whas blinded by the huge qty of devices I couldnt see clear.
You opened up my eyes and to earn a 1000 $ is very interesting.
BTW, How much you ask for these sockets?
Cheers for now,
Marco

I checked the latest Mouser catalog (the ones I have come in the
original Mouser shipping bags). The bags are marked "Part No.
562-TO-340-G" but I couldn't find that in the catalog. The ones I have
look identical to the catalog number 506-8080-1G25 on P. 862 (Aug-Oct
'04 catalog). These have gold plated contacts and sell for ten dollars
each, or $840 per hundred.
Maybe I should auction them on Ebay. I have more than a hundred, I'd
like to sell at least a hundred, along with the 2N3055s I have.

If you're interested, contact me at my hotmail addr, alondra101, and you
must include NOSPAM in the subject line or it will not get thru.
