I'm have a S-video source (digital TV decoder box) and would like to display
it on a 19" CRT monitor. Is there a device which I can buy that allows me to
do this? I know you can get VGA->TV converts,... but never really seen one
that goes the other way....

Cheers!!

Yes, check out mpeg decoder card or aka "Capture card".

Here is the link http://www.swann.com.au/products/dv/easy/dvd_easy.htm

probably cost around $200 or more

** A new 19 inch ( 48 cm) TV set will cost you less than the box of
tricks to do that.

Thanks Phil,.. it may be cheaper with a 2nd TV set... but I don't have
that
much room and using the PC monitor seems to be a logical idea...

** Huh ???

Since when is a a 19 inch TV necessarily bigger than a 19 inch monitor
??

He likely needs the monitor for the PC anyway, stupid.

So being able to watch TV on it saves on one screen, stupid.

No wonder you're completely unemployable.

Only the OP knows his reasons - you fucking don't.

Rod is correct.
** No he was not - read his next post.

I still want to be able to watch TV *and* use the PC.
** Opposite to Rod's next post.

Since my room is only a little bit bigger than a closet, it'll be
convenient to
use the PC Monitor as a TV without having to turn the PC on.
** That remark makes no sense.

How does operating the PC's on switch lose space in your room ???????

Your way means having to unplug the monitor lead from the PC *every time*
you need to watch TV and then put it back to use the PC - that seems
MASSIVELY inconvenient.

Using a video capture card mean you have one or the other any time or can
even have both at once ( ie the TV image in a window) .

BTW I found exactly what I wanted. Here's the link if anyone else is

You'll still need an RF tuner to use with that, a cheap VCR would
probably be the go.
