expensive and they did not have many LT components,
only about half a dozen.
I asked LT who the Australian agents for parts were
but LT didn't reply to my e-mail. So here, we have you,
the designer offering help to people which is great,
a free program which is also great, but no assortment
of LT switcher parts to play with in this part of the world.
What rotten luck, eh!

Move to the US and buy the LT parts from Digikey.

Hello Ken,
yes, I know you hobbyists live in an Aladdin's cave
over there.

I look on ebay and see all that terrific second hand
test equipment going for next to nothing. Makes
me weep.

I read Tool Gloat stories on the metalworking group
about the bargain materials and machinery being
bought at the Boeing disposals yard and elsewhere,
but, I think I'll stay here. The good weather and the
easy going attitude of most people count for a lot. :)

Cheerio,

Send some e-mail to Linear's web site asking about a
local rep/distributor for you. You can buy direct from
Linear's web, too, I think. It must be possible to buy
everything Linear sells in Australia. The Pacific rim
is a non-trivial fraction of Linear's business.

Hello Mike,
thanks for sorting me out.

You are correct, it is possible to buy Linear's parts
here in Australia but not cheaply.
From the linear's web site there is a mob called Soanar
who put me on to another mob called Polykom
who want $50 minimum order. They can also
order stuff in from the USA.
Just not economical for the hobbyist.
I will just wait until a mate of mine is buying some stuff
from Digikey or another similar mob in the USA
and we will share postage costs.

Arrow Australia (regrettably)
Hello Budgie,
I gave Arrow a bell, 02 98689900.
The young lady at the Epping office told me that
Arrow here in Sydney do not have Linear Technology
parts in stock. They don't cater for hobbyist amounts
of one and two pieces. Anyway, thanks for the lead.

Here's an idea: Get together with the other hobbiests down there, talk to
the folks at Linear and start your own parts company that carries Linear's
stuff, PICs, resistors, capacitors and copper clad. If their's enough of
you, you may be able to run in the black after the first year or so.
