Sony non OEM replacement jungle IC-reliable? (CXA1477AS)

Hey all. I'm looking to get a replacement jungle ic (cxa1477as) for a
46kp25s RPTV and found a couple vendors of "replacement" IC's for much
less than sony OEM. Anyone have any experience with replacement or
substitute IC's? Who are reliable vendors? Anyone dealt with river
valley electronics? Thanks,

I recommend that you stick with genuine parts. They may be more expensive, but
they'll end up saving you time and money in the long run.

If you don't use a specific genuine part, the repair may not last. Sony sets
are among some of the brands that are particularly critical about this. -

I've had excellent luck with using second-source for some Sony IC's like the
CXD-2500BQ from MCM. Sony's original is about 30.00 to 40.00 more. I say
it's worth a shot. No counterfeiter is going to go and make big elaborate
jungle IC's. This supplier just went to Sony Japan for them, I would think.

Alex,

The replacement IC is exactly the same as the Sony OEM. You are just
buying it off a different vendor. Pretty much the same as buying a brand
of tire from a car dealer versus buying it from a tire dealer. The
jungle ICs are too complex to be cloned by counterfeiters, unless they
took a same pin count cheap IC and slapped a label on it which obviously
won't work. Transistors are another story. As for reliability, if the IC
was mishandled, i.e. poor ESD handling then the device will have a high
probabilty of failure. I've seen ESD sensitive devices placed on
ordinary plastic bags with no conductive foam and vendor doesn't even
have a clue Majority of semiconductor failures are due to improper
ESD handling. Others may not agree on this but I'm referring to those
devices subjected to within their operating and storage limits and
previously subjected to manufacturer burn-in. I have experience in all
stages of electronics, including repair.
