Small 2-1 Multiplexer

Hello,

I'm looking for a small 2-1 multiplexer chip - 6 or 8 pin DIP would be
ideal. I want it to switch one output pin between two sources selected
by a single TTL level input. It's just a serial data signal, low speed
(1200 baud), TTL level, current maybe 1mA at most.

I thought this would be quite a common application but I've spent a
couple of hours looking on the web and found nothing. A solid state
relay would probably do the job as well if I could find the right one.
Ordinarily I would construct something using a logic IC but small size
is the real issue here.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

well, i found a lot of quads and stuff, but i figure you'll have to make
your own, maybe from an smt 4016 or other type of switch. maybe a ds2405
would fit your situation(maxim), though i don't know if you want to get
into them.

Various manufacturers offer a single-gate line. Check out
Fairchild's TinyLogic, OnSemi's MiniGate....

Consider analog switches as well as digital multiplexers.

Thanks for your reply, I found an analogue switch (DJ419) which looks
like it will work. Thanks to everyone who replied, all good ideas.

A small eight pins PIC12F629 can easily be programmed to fullfill this
function.

Some serial to TTL chips have an enable input. You can connect the
outputs of two of these in parallel and gate one or the other on to
choose the right serial stream. Also two AND gates with open collectors
could be connected in parallel. ANother way would be to sum both
signals with resistors, and short one or the other to ground with
transistors or diodes. If the signal level is much lower, then just
amplify it a few times up to 5V.
