Hi there,

Where can I buy a pinhole S-mount (M12 x 0.5) lens for use with a colour
CMOS board camera? Ideally from a UK supplier but I don't mind buying from
abroad.

Do such things exist?

Many thanks,
Jack

PS
Sorry for posting to loads of news groups.

I would bet that SRB film service could make one out of a body cap.
Problem is they might take months to do it....

And does anyone know what lens mount the C-Cam8 uses?

Thanks,
Jack

Thanks loads for suggesting these guys, Gordon.

I called them but they didn't know about S-mount. But they did say that, if
we could find the specs, they'd probably be able to make one up for about
Ł35 which is excellent.

Why not make one yourself? We made pinhole cameras in school out of cardboard
boxes, black tape and black spray paint...real high tech stuff... ;-> We used
4x5 film and got surprisingly sharp pictures.

I think the regularity of the edge of the hole makes a difference.
Most pinhole lenses you buy are plastic body caps with a sheet of thin metal
with a hole either drilled (or in some cases lasered) through it)
This is fitted over a larger hole drilled through the body cap.

The tiny hole you can make with a pin in tinfoil.

How regular is a hole punched in a cardboard box with a pin? LOL! That's how we
made ours.

That worked fine for us in school but then I don't know how large you expect to
be able to make your prints.

Anyway my only point was since body caps are cheap it couldn't hurt to
experiment. Might even be fun to mess with while you're waiting for a custom
one.

Sorry, I should have been more explicit. I don't want a litteral "pinhole"
lens (i.e. a lens without any glass, just a small hole). I need a lens that
can look through a hole no larger than about 2mm. The sort of lens used for
covert cameras. Ideally the lens would have the following characteristics:

* S-Mount ( M12 x 0.5 )
* colour compatible (i.e. it must have an IR filter and no chromatic
aboration)
* a focal length of between 3 - 6 mm
* a field of view of between 50 - 90 degrees (using a 1/3" CMOS chip)

Thanks,
Jack

Is there some confusion here?

A pinhole lens could also mean a glass or plastic lens that can look
through a pinhole, as supplied on some CCD video cameras.

Ashley

Yes, you're right - I'm after the sort of lens Ashley mentioned.
