RFID chips.

Hi there,
I'd like to use some 125khz RFID tag chips, but I cannot find them
anywhere out-of-tag. I actually want to communicate with it via wire and do
not need the antenna coil. The only chips that I've found are sold in
quantities of 1000+ and I only need about 10. One option is to take apart
tags, but the chips are glued in pretty well and the couple that I've tried
are paper thin and easily break when extracted.

Does anyone know where to get a small handful of 125khz rfid chips (not in
a tag/antenna assembly)?

Try Atmel... I know Atmel have some RFID chips that are "dual port" (RFID
but also I2C link to an external chip), like the AT24RF08 in 125KHz band,
but you will probably need to buy some thousands of them too...
