Nige !
What I would do is give them back the TV its as simply as that.
What is the age of this set ?

kip
3 days old. It's the second one I have had too.

My RP is slightly overscanning horizontally- when I display the Avia screen
with a I----+----I test the two I's are just outside the screen- if I use
the user level horizontal position I can bring either one in, but obviously
it's off-centre. I tried adjusting WID and readjusting convergence- a little
bit too much work. I put it back after a bit, as I'm unsure of overall
widescreen shape (might be egg-shaped, I guess you need to set horizontal &
vertical to the same overscan setting- say 3% for both?) and re-do geometry
& convergence.

I guess a LCD & Plasma is alot easier, if you can do this within user level
would be cool, and maybe custom overscan modes for PAL & NTSC (being that
they have different resolution etc)

You would think so, but the LCD I just bought is going back as overscan
cannot be resolved due to NO adjustments for horizontal & vertical
amplitude.

Looks like it's another plasma for me.

To answer this guy's question about the service menu not affecting
contrast brightness color etc They are only designed to change those
parameters in the SERVICE MODE ie the settings are not supposed to be
retained. Sub color sub brightness etc WILL be retained. And as far as
tilt is concerned especially on bigger screens(CRT's only) the tilt will
change depending on the orientation of the TV ie North South East and
Wset because of the Earth's magnetic field so a customer setting (tilt)
would be a good idea.

No No ...The Yoke
Not the CRT.

kip

Fair enough- the yoke. Still risky procedure. I've done quite a bit to my
display (have to go into service level to do convergence) haven't killed the
set, although I have read of alot of people doing it (changing settings
without a slightest idea what it does, and haven't written down original
values etc)

I don't blindly adjust (I know VLIN and VPOS can kill my set) also in design
mode there's about 200-300 settings.

Width and Height adjustments should NOT be made using AVIA test patterns
they don't work(trust me I've been doing this since 1976) THE only way
to calibrate the tv is with proper test equipment. The problem is you
are playing those patterns thru your DVD player which WILL screw it up.
AND you are only setting NTSC modes NOT HD modes plus you need to be
able to set the DVD to progressive and interlace modes as they are diff
adjustments!

My CRT RP is not HD, nor is it progressive. Interlaced only. It's a pity
width & height adjustments effect geometry & convergence.. if it stayed
correct I could adjust both easily, and not have to correct geoimetry &
convergence afterwards.
