The pilots flew like fighter pilots, which I think they were. It was
fun for people who don\'t get motion sick.

Foreigners were treated like royalty and Russians like trash. We got

Pre or post glasnost

1980. I was in Moscow when Reagan defeated Carter.

About an hour after the announcement, the US embassy unfurled a giant
portrait of RR on the side of the building. I assume they had both
ready.

I got invited to have dinner with the ambassador. He was genuinely
interested in what American visitors felt about Russia. I told him the
airplane story, about how visiting American Capitalists were treated
so much better than Russians. I thought that was strange and
backwards.

The Cuban rum was excellent. We couldn\'t buy it in the USA and the
Russians couldn\'t buy it in Russia.

I offered to cook Bananas Foster for some of the guys. They thought it
was hilarious, the idea of finding bananas in Moscow. Ice cream with
rum wasn\'t a terrible substitute. Try that, a couple of tablespoons of
rum on good vanilla ice cream.

That sounds like an excellent choice

I have donated to a number of organizations this month but the one that stands out is Chef Jose Andres World Kitchen

https://www.joseandres.com/humanitarian/

Their work impressed me some time ago

They seem to respond all over the world, as needed, which is a truly good thing
